Orion to rescue in Southern Ocean

Recommended Posts

The cruise ship Orion has been diverted to rescue a lone French yachtman adrift in mountainous seas SW of Hobart in the Southern Ocean.

Orion is on its way back from Antartica & expected to reach the position on Sunday.

AMSA coastwatch plane found the 63 year old yachtsman after receiving an alert from the sailors EBIRP.

He is well protected in an imersion suit in a liferaft.

It is too far for helicopter rescue - aircraft are keeping watch until Orion arrives.
