What to pack

Leaving Sept 26 NE/Canada 10 days. Not sure how to pack for port days and evenings on the ship. We are usually cruising to caribbean.

We did this cruise a few years ago. This time of year it can be cool in NE especially at night and on the water. We packed light wind breakers and a sweatshirt, long pants and a light sweater. (we did bring a pair of shorts and tee shirt but wore only once). You can always layer .....We had rain one day but the wind breakers were water-proof also a travel umbrella helped in Boston while waiting for a cab back to the pier. Hope this helps.

i have not cruised New England but I live in Maine: Friday I was at Castine where our Maritime Academy is: On the dock where we ate our lunch you needed a sweater: This am back home it was breezy and 60 degrees at 9am when I left for sunday School: At 7 am tomorrow when I walk out to get my newspaper it will be about 40-45 degrees:

I wouldn't bother to pack more than one pair of shorts: ) Layered is the way to go: Out on deck on the ocean you need a sweatshirt and a windbreaker: Def. long pants: Enjoy your cruise:

We are 90 days away from our yearly cruise to sunny holiday warmer weather: I know we will enjoy ours:)

Layers, layers, layers. The Atlantic from Boston north is cold and will probably be in the 50's. This means that while sailing, and particularly at night, it'll range from chilly to cold. During the day, while in port, it can be anywhere from the 50's to 70's. Weather and temps are very changeable and there can be a 20-30 temperature difference in port from early morning to late afternoon.

T-shirts under a cardigan sweater and maybe a windbreaker is an example of layers when in port. A lightweight fleece vest (like they have at LL Bean) is very versatile. You may want a sweater or wrap on the ship in the evenings.

I'm in New Brunswick and everything the others said is correct....we're at that time of year where it's still very pleasant/warm during the day but for example, I just took the dogs out (6 am) and it's +2C (39F I think??). It will go up to +22 today (77??) which is about average this time of year during the day. That's still shorts weather for me during the day, but depends where you are....there could be quite a cool breeze from the Ocean. Enjoy your trip and exploring my neck of the woods! I now live in NB, but from NS (Cape Breton) and hubby is from PEI so this is truly our home! You're going to love Halifax...I just love to stroll the waterfront. If you're looking for a great place to eat, the "Heart and Thistle" which is very close to the Casino and "Cows" ice-cream (as you're looking at the waterfront from the ship, far right) is a great place for pub type seafood. They have a sampler dessert plate that is to die for!! I hope it'a a nice warm day and you can sit out on the patio!:)

Hi, I am curious as to what the foliage is like now by you. When is peak?

I live near Augusta, Maine... one of the maples in my yard is just starting to change. Oaks have not started. Birches are getting yellowish.

We will be leaving on October 4th for a 10 days cruise to Canada/New England on the Eurodam. Over the past 2 weeks we have enjoyed beautiful weather here in New Jersey. The sunshine filled warm days ended today with heavy rain, wind, and cool temperatures in the 60's. This was just the reality check I needed as I begin packing for our trip! Raincoat, hat, gloves, and layers are certainly the way to go. I'll be sure to throw in a pair of shorts just to be optimistic.

I agree layering is the way to go. When my DH and I went on our Canada/New England cruise we both bought a 3:1 coat. It is a windbreaker with hood, and a fleece zip jacket you can wear the alone or together I wish I had it several years earlier when I went on my Alaska cruise.
