Wow.. that's awesome! I am an avid Harrah's player and only sail NCL. I hope I get this offer too. Sounds great! I'll have to check the mail today. Wish me luck!

It doesn;t say on the card, but it looks like it may be Diamond player or higher.

I don;t think you can go wrong on either count - the Gem is a beautiful ship and if you are from the northeast, NY is a perfect departure place.

Hello,

I was wondering if you booked your free cruise yet. I also received that offer and I was wondering if there were any hidden charges? I have a 1 night stay at harrah's this coming Friday. I am only a gold card member so I think this is a great deal for me. I am from South Jersey so I would love to cruise the NCL Gem out for NYC.

Thanks

YOu have to had a post card and I am not sure but it may be for 7Stars only. I didn't see any Diamond members picking up the cruise but I could be wrong.

I picked up my cruise certificate yesterday. They are inside cabin and you are responsbile for port charges, taxes and tips. You may add a person to the room and do an upgrade at extra cost. I was under the impression that the quicker you book the better chance you will have to get the full 7 day cruises. I am booking either later today or tomorrow.

I just booked my cruise out of NY. The only catch is that the certificate is good for an inside cabin. We upgraded to a mini suite (I think). We are new to cruising, but it appears that cruising can be very addicting and I'm hoping I get hooked!!

Booked my free cruise today which wound up costing $347 per person without tips for taxes and port fees. Very easy process, make sure you have what dates you are looking at and have your Total Rewards Card.

I don’t understand how it can be a “Free” cruise if it cost $347 per person to book it..

"Free" cruises that are part of promotions such as the Total Rewards, Bingo prize, slot pull prize, etc. do NOT include port charges, taxes and fuel supplements. The "winner" must pay for those fees and any upgrade fees.

Now I’m really confused.

Until now I always thought that Free was, without cost, payment, or charge.

This is a great Deal! - I am a GOLD Total Rewards Member

I checked into my comp room at the Showboat Harrah's casino Friday to receive my FREE cruise certificate. I also had a comp for $165 free slot play and $56 dollars for breakfast.

I came home Saturday and booked my inside cabin cruise for 7 days from NYC March 21-28 2009. Guest Fare 330.00 Govt. tax and fees are 210.00 and Fuel is 154.00 this is on the Norwegian Gem to Bahamas, totaling 694.00. I booked this same cruise a few years ago and it cost about 1600.00. So the cruise may not be 100% free but it is at a greatly reduced cost.:p

People win "free" cars and other prizes on game shows and still pay taxes on them. I'll pay taxes on anything they want to give me.

That has more to do with the US Goverment than it does anything else. When you get something "free", the governement still expects to get the taxes on the value of what you are getting free. I am not for sure what exactly designates when they expect you to pay the taxes and when they don't, but I know even years ago when I worked for a cellular telephone company, when we gave "free" cell phones, the customer had to pay the taxes on the "free" phone even though it was at no cost to them. We have booked three cruises through CAS and had to pay taxes, port charges and fee's on all three of them.

I don't know if you ever watched that network that gave away a dream home every year.. but one year they gave away one here in Texas.. at Lake Tyler. The people that won the home kept being in financial turmoil because they had trouble paying the taxes. Unfortunate for them, there were so many restrictions placed on the home when they won it that for years they were always having trouble.. They could not rent the home for so many years, they couldn't sell it, etc. It was a nightmare for them. Just getting something for free does not mean you have no financial obligations.

We checked into Showboat on Friday and received our cruise package. I am a diamond card holder and my certificate is good for me and a guest. Sadly, I won't be able to take the 7 day cruise offer because my certificate states that the cruise must be taken by April. Because our daughter will be getting married in May, we will have to take the 4 nighter on the Sky in the fall. When I called to book it, I was told that the Bahamas cruises for the fall aren't "out yet" and that I would have to call back in about a month.

They can pay the taxes for you if they wish to really make it free (they may need to pay you enough money to cover the taxes + enough money to pay the taxes on the money they gave you for taxes). Costs them *alot* more, but if they really wanted to make it free they could. I have seen a few places that will issue you say a $1000 check to go along with your prize, you can use $700 to pay the taxes on the prize then the other $300 to pay your taxes on the $1000 they gave you. :)

Didn't want to start a new thread.

I booked this offer today, not sure if I'm going to do it but didn't want to be shut out, can always cancel.

It seems like this is a very good deal. I was looking at the Alaska cruise in July 2010. Are there blackout dates?

Can anyone tell me about their experience?

TIA

You said you booked this offer today. Assume you mean you booked the casino offer to get the certificate.

Reports I have seen posted indicated you get the cabin free, but still pay the normal port taxes and fees. You can also upgrade to a higher level for whatever the normal price difference is.

There are some blackouts, but have not seen anyone that had them. You have to ask and then find out.
