Star out of NOLA hotel

Taking the Star out of NOLA Mar 31 next year. I have never been to New Orleans and Wife and I would like to go a day early to rummage about. Could anyone recommend a hotel close to the port that still allows easy acess to touristy parts of town?

I have stayed at the New Orleans Sheraton a number times while waiting to go on the Spirit. It is at the edge of the French Quarter and the business district. I have had a room overlooking the Mississippi and could see the Spirit sail in on Sunday morning. I am booked there for my transatlantic cruise on the Star in April. The best thing is that it is a partnership hotel with NCL and you can purchase a transfer from the hotel to the ship. They send a big bus, load luggage, you and you are off to the port. I do it all the time. I hope you have a wonderful time in New Orleans and have a wonderful cruise. Welcom Aboard.

We've stayed at the Drury Inn and enjoyed it. The Drury is within walking distance of the French Quarter and close to the port. You can actually walk to the port, if you're really ambitious and can deal with cobblestones. We're going back in November.

I've stayed IN New Orleans October 2011 and again two weeks ago prior to cruising. Stayed at two different hotels. October 2011 was at the Hampton Inn and Suites Convention Center which is practically a stone's throw to the cruise terminal(probably the CLOSEST lodging to terminal) but that makes it a little far to the French Quarter where so many great restaurants are clumped together. This year we decided to stay a little closer...in fact one street off of Bourbon(wouldn't REALLY want to be ON Bourbon St) on Royal St at the Holiday Inn French Quarter. I really, REALLY liked the location of the Holiday Inn as just a short walk around the block is Acme Oyster and Felix's...and many other places a slightly longer walk. FANTASTIC location. Our room was great and so was service. The kicker is it's a $14 cab fare for two to the cruise terminal from EITHER hotel so why not stay close to the good stuff??

ALSO...

New Orleans tends to have events/festivals on a monthly basis so rooms can and do fill UP and I mean quickly. Price can also easily double so it's always best to make your reservation ASAP after you decide where you want to stay!

Hotels in the French Quarter were a very economical taxi drive to the Pier in 2011, I have read the Port location has changed?? But still think it is not that far from the great location close to Bourbon and Royal Street. We have stayed at the Hotel St Marie and Bourbon New Orleans, close to everything and a short ride to the Port.

There are many hotels in or near the French Quarter. Lots of things to do.

Be aware, hotels are often full in New Orleans. Book in advance. Cheap cab to the pier.

We stayed at the Marriott Convention center New Orleans. Nice hotel, right across the street from the cruise terminal but quite a few blocks walk to the French Quarter. We were able to just take our luggage across the street from our hotel to the ship.

We watched our ship come in on the morning of our cruise. We like this location because it was quieter than the French Quarter. Last time we stayed in the French Quarter we heard a guy on the corner with a megaphone preaching the gospel for hours on end.

Love the gospel preached but not on a megaphone and not for hours while trying to sleep.:eek:

We are so lucky that we get free rooms through the Harrah's Casino. Walking distance to both the French Quarter AND the pier. Works out beautifully.

We prefer to stay at the Harrah's Hotel but it is sometimes hard to get into. They also use several hotels around the casino.

If you are a Total Rewards member with the Caesar's change, call them. Can't hurt to try. Maybe not free, but a reduced rate.

Our first cruise out of New Orleans we stayed at the Hotel Provincial - loved the location and the hotel was fine.

For our January 2013 cruise we're staying at the Drury. It gets good reviews and has some extras (food and drink). We're retired now and save where we can so we can spend elsewhere.

Figure out if you are going to be there during Mardi Gras..... things are booked a year in advance, traffic is messed up and you might be up all night! :D:eek:

Hotel room is booked. Still watching airfare and wishing Southwest would open up for January.

I'll be staying at Harrah's before my January cruise - how far a walk to the pier is it?

Hotel room is booked. Still watching airfare and wishing Southwest would open up for January.

Just got the scoop from my travel agent that Southwest will open up their flight dates through the end of the year on June 4th. So probably about 45 days after that, January 2013 may be available for booking.
