DP event on CocoCay

PH8

Recommended Posts

I frequently sail on Monarch although I have not been there for several months. The practice had been for a VIP event (which includes DP members) to be held at the Deck area at the far end of Coco Cay with frozen cocktails, snacks etc. leaving from the ship at 1130, or meeting at the site at 1200.

Hope this helps. I will be on Monarch next week and will see if the same practice is followed.

Kathy - We had a similar event in August. From best I can determine, it was for suite guests, Pinnacle and D+. We stayed about 20-30 minutes and chatted with officers and some folks we had met earlier in the cruise. We enjoyed it very much.

The location is right next to the Wacky Seagull Jr. bar. We were there with Marci last month, and it was a very nice event. Some hors d'oeurves are also served. As Marci mentioned, chatting with the officers in a very casual setting was a treat.

The offered us another way to get there - meet in the Centrum at 11:30 (as mentioned by padrek), then they escort you onto a tender, then onto the CocoLimo, where you are driven to the event in style.

If Anna is driving the CocoLimo, be prepared for an exciting ride.

That does sound nice......hmmmmmmmmm...maybe it enuf to have instead of the lunch at the Cabanas

We've been and it was very nice. Most of the time we miss coco cay due to weather. Kathy, I think you will still need the lunch though!:D Not that much in the food but if you don't want to eat much it would be OK.

I don't know ... after 3 Coco Loco's, you might not be thinking of lunch anymore!

We did this event this past Sunday on Monarch. We didn't wait for the scheduled departure but went a half hour earlier, purchased a beverage at the nearby bar and sat on the D+, P deck. We had a quiet, cool (with the breeze) time waiting for everyone else to arrive. You may get there early, but the free drinks and food won't be available.

Are there Cabana's available for rent on Coco Cay? Are DP's able to reserve them, or just suite guests?

Is this DP event only for the Monarch or the Freedom as well?

Yes, there are a small number of cabanas available for rent on Coco Cay. We were able to reserve one, and were not in a suite, just DP, however I don't recall there being any restrictions on who can rent them.

Don't know about your Freedom question.

Anyone on the Monarch can rent the Cabanas. It is first come – first served. The cabanas are nothing like those on Labadee

As for the D+ event on the Freedom - we had a breakfast/brunch on the ship.

I believe the Coco Cay event is really a suite event with D+ ( and I’m sure P) invited. The invitation was not listed as a D+ event, but something like an event for “our special guests”.

ps - I see Bob beat me too it.

Marci, I think you are correct, I don't remember any "classification" of guests that were invited to the cocktail party. I'm guessing that the management has their own guidelines, that probably include suite guests, but they might change who else they invite based on the various C&A numbers on board.

Sometimes the invitation is verbal too. On one of our cruises, the HD invited us as we chatted in the centrum. We never did get a written invitation that time. He also invited all his guests at the management table, some who were first time RCI cruisers. I suspect there's a certain amount of spur of the moment invitations being issued.

Hi Torpeedo, :D

Hope we don't miss Coco Cay for our trip! I did not know they had a special event, but

then again we found our favorite thing to do was to don walking shoes and do the circle the island nature trail on Coco Cay. Have you been out to the high point at the end that looks out over the island? It is really beautiful. :)

HI Island Lady! I sure hope we don't miss it too! We had a cabana rented and everything for the Aug 22 cruise and sure enough... missed again!!

Has anyone recently been to CocoCay and had the DP event?? Tell me about it,please.:D

Not sure if it is just for the MN or if other ships have one..

Hi Kathy! I was there last week on MJ. Our event was all C&A and it was a madhouse and free-for-all for free drinks and snacks. Ours wasn't pleasant at all and I could only stomach the elitist attitudes for about 5 minutes. I never heard so much whining because the drinks and chicken wings weren't being served every 5 seconds. People were ready to riot over cheese sticks.

Sorry. Don't mean to worry you. Hopefully yours will be much nicer. I'm sure the atmosphere has a lot to do with the attitudes of the members. :)

This is so funny. We are D+, have been to CocoCay so many times I cannot even count and I never knew about this party. It is by the Wacky Seagull? Where? We are always on the 1st tender to the island, but when we are back in oct I would like to check this party out!
