Aix En Provence - Marseilles

We will be in Marseilles on Sunday Nov. 29 and would like to go to Aix En Provence. What is the best way to get there from the port? We are in port from 7AM until 5PM. Will we find shops, restaurants, etc. closed on Sunday?

Does anyone know of a tour operator that would take us to Aix and then to tour Marseilles?

We have not been in Aix-en-Provence but we booked a private tour while we called Marseille on NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS in spring.

Here you find some impressions from our private tour and from the car/driver etc.:

I am sure if you ask them about the opening time they can tell you.

If you get Romain as driver:

say "bonjour" from me.

He was really a nice driver - so gentle - I think I have to ask him to transfer his business to Norway to make sure that my father will leave the ship...

Have a true "bon voyage". As we are passing from Cannes to Barcelona: I will have the biggest binocular and try to find you out at the coastside.

Salut

  • 1 year later...

Getting to Aix from Marseille is quite easy. First, you need to get from the port into town which you can do by the shuttle bus or taxi. Once in town you can either take the regional train or bus up to Aix. Its all pretty easy and inexpensive. As others have said, Sunday's in France will normally find many shops closed except in a few tourist towns (such as St Paul de Vence and Eze). But Aix is charming any day of the week.

Cassis from Marseille is a nice drive if by the east end of the bay. Cassis is not much so I hope the 5 hours includes a trip to the calanques beautiful narrow inlets.

If you want more variety and history , Aix is the obvious choice, not to mention better restaurants.

Cassis is really more of a been there done that Aix type place.

Can someone please help me with the e-mail address of SSK? I tried: reservations@ssk.fr-- it came back "undeliverable."

I've been trying to find some sort of transfer service/guide from Monte Carlo to Aix or Avignon ( hopefully with stops on the way).

Many thanks.

Go to http://www.ssk.fr/fr/contact and send from there.

Thanks for prompt reply. I was on that site, but they seemed to need telephone # and things like that. I was hoping simply to be able to e-mail them, as I have other such companies. Is that not possible? If not, I wonder why.

We used SSK Dreamliner for 2 tours: Villefranche/Nice/Eze and Toulon/Marseille/Aix-en-Provence. You can read my full review and photos here:

We were in contact with Romain Noel who has this e-mail address:

Hope that helps!

forms like that always look a little daunting, but they aren't going to be calling you internaionally, they will respond by email.

Thank you. I have e-mailed r.noel, but not heard back.

The problem for us will be that we're a party of two. I'm learning that transfers/tours for just two people in France are prohibitively expensive. Very disappointing because in England last month we had a terrific private transfer for just the two of us from Heathrow, and also a superb day mini-bus tour from a company in Bath to the Cotswolds-- very inexpensive and perfect for us.

It's always just the 2 of us when we travel also. We formed a group of 8 to fill our tour van on our Roll Call thread. We did this for 4 ports and it worked out really well. We met a couple during that cruise that we are still friends with today!
