Blackjack on norwegian ships

Last month I was on the Star which went to Bermuda. At the $5 blackjack they used 8 decks in a continuous shuffling machine and only paid even money for a blackjack. The $10 blackjack had 8 decks which were hand shuffled and they paid 3:2 for a blackjack. At the $25 table 6 decks were used with hand shuffling and a 3:2 payout for a blackjack.

I very rarely play blackjack and noticed this variation for the first time.

Is this a standard on all Norwegian ships?

I experienced this on the Jade last year as well. Only cruise casino I've ever been to, so no idea if this is standard across the industry. I was certainly surprised when I hit my first BJ at the $5 table and received even money.

Even money on blackjack? a nasty way to increase the house edge

According to wizardofodds it gives the house another 2.27%

Playing basic strategy a probable $27 loss on $1000 bet?

Play the $25 table and it is a probable loss of $25 on $5000 bet

I was at a casino in Vegas last year. I normally don't play blackjack but was bored waiting for the wife so I sat at a BJ table. Dealer dealt me a blackjack and went to pay me even money. I was abit surprised but then I thought about it for a few seconds. After looking at the dealers up card and seeing a 6 I turned down the even money and asked to go up for doubles. He looked at me sort of funny like and said he didn't think I could do that. Pit boss came over and said I could. Hit 21, won and walked away. No tip for the dealer.

Not a fan of the continuous shuffle machine.

Unless you're a good card counter, the continuous shuffle machine actually decreases the house percentage slightly.

The main advantage it gives the house is the ability to play more hands in any given period of time because they don't lose time reshuffling the deck.

I don;t like the CSM's because I like to use the time between shoes to count my chips, run to the bathroom, and friends use it to smoke (they know i don't so they tend to not do it at the table). Sometimes a break in the action is nice
