I certainly don't think it's a popular excursion. It's well over a hundred miles from Civitavecchia to Assisi, so there'd be a lot of travelling. I would be a bit concerned about the time scale.

I think so too. There doesn't seem to be much work going on by the old fort now and the new dropoff spot has a small cafe. I somehow don't see them going back to the old place.
