Noise in Cove Balconies

...We sailed in a cove balcony on the Breeze in January. We were in 2283, which was starboard, sixth cove balcony from the bow and right off the Atrium elevators. Only heard two sounds all week. An occasional soft "ding" from the elevators at night. The other sound was not the waves hitting the bow of the ship, but the sound of the displaced water landing back into the ocean after hitting the bow. It was a sound we could listen to all week. If that noise bothers you, you can simply close the balcony door and hear nothing.

...We thought the location and the cove balcony were perfect!

Right now we're booked in 2411 and 2409 on the Breeze and are thinking swtiching to 2281 and 2283...I was concerned that the people walking past to go to the elevators might be noisy with the latter, but the ones we have booked now are under the galley. Not sure if I should switch or not

This is all great input, folks! Thanks so much! Starting to get the idea that the location from bow to stern is more important to noise issues than what is above (with the exception of the galley). But since I haven't seen a deck plan where the galley location is identified, how do you find that out?

And with one poster saying when you look up all you can see are lifeboats, is it possible to even see the stars at night from a cove balcony?

Please keep the comments coming. Learning something new from each of them and sure that others will too.

Looking directly up, of course you'll see the life boats, that's where they are:eek: That's part of the beauty of feeling private. Also, no direct sun. Those coves are the best invention. You can look out and see the stars, but I don't book a balcony just to see them, I can do that at home. I was not under the gally, so I only know what I read. I would rather do an OV than book an upper level balcony unless there was some kind of a roof over it.

We were in 2264 on the Breeze and it was fantastic !! No noise issues and great views ... if you are on FB then go to a group called Carnival Cruisers...Past, Present, Future and there are lots of us that have posted Cove pictures :-) :) and also a group called Galveston Carnival Cruisers ... on both of those groups there are pics of the cove balconies :-):)

We were on the Carnival Magic 3/2013 in cove cabin 2381 and our children were across the hall in an interior cabin. The cabins turned out to be under the galley and the noise was terrible all night long. It sounded like they were bowling or or dropping free weights in a gym. I notified guest services and they sent down the head of hotel services and they verified the noise the first 2 nights and tried to remedy the issues in the galley but were unable to. Since no other cabins were available the gave us all a 25% discount on our entire cruise and 15% future cruise credit. We are going to try a cove again 10/2014 but made sure it not under the galley this time

2248 on the Dream was great. We had waves the entire trip and heard the slapping of waves at the bow, but no real noise.

The only weird thing about that particular cabin is the emergency exit from deck 4 that went through our balcony. It did not look like it was ever used, but to look up and see "EMERGENCY EXIT" painted on a metal door at the top of a metal ladder welded to the hull was a bit odd.

We loved that room and only had balcony neighbors on one side. The other side was ocean view.

WE had a cove balcony on the magic with no worries. We were under the kitchen area and only one nite i heard a cart being rolled. It was so nice being close to the water and seeing the flying fish and dolphins. The balcony was so private and we never saw our neighbors. I would get another ..

I had cabin 2334 on the Breeze. Worst cabin for noise I've ever had! There was a loud metal-on-metal banging/grinding sound that I could never figure out where it was coming from. Plus, on the deckplan it shows a blank space next to the cabin. Turns out that blank space is actually a storage room for the luggage carts and the carts made noises as well.

I was with a group of people and there were 3 or 4 of us in cove balconies in different locations and I think the majority of us had noise problems.

I will not book a cove balcony again.

We had 2276 on the Magic and loved it. It is one of the few that has a break in the lifeboats above it and we could see the stars. We have it booked for a B2B in January.

I hope it's the same on the Breeze, because we have 2276 booked for January:cool:

I was just going to ask the same question about noise from above as we are thinking about being on the dream in July. From some of the responses, it seems its pot luck regarding noise depending on your location. I would think that being below the galley could be very noisy as I expect the galley would have activity going on most of the day and night. May have to rethink if a cove balcony is the right choice.

Nothing to think about. Just don't book a cabin below the galley;)

I just found my paper for Dream, we were in 2404, not under the galley, a few doors from an elevator and stairs up 1 flight to the DR:D

we had cabin 2404 on the Dream last summer. Love the Cove balcony and the location was the best, but the noise from above was terrible.. Sounded like a bowling alley above us with steel pins.. We had earplugs so we managed, but I would think twice before booking that one again..

What do you think it was? I was in the same cabin, and except for an occasional thud, it was quiet. It is not below the galley.

The deck plans show 2404 to be under the galley. Actually, all cove balconies from the midship elevators on back are under the galley, plus a few of the OV rooms near the aft elevators. It sounds like you had some good luck with noise, because the area around that room has had several reports of noise from above.

Some rooms under the galley will be fine, some will not. For those that had a noisy spot under the galley, don't let that cause you to swear off coves. Just pick one forward of the midship elevators next time. Anything under the dining room is great, since it's empty all night long. Under the lobby is fine as well, since it gets very little use overnight. There are no coves under the casino or theater.

We were on the Breeze in cabin 7323... The noise was horrible... They came down to our cabin and listened... We where right under a prep station and the noise went all though the night and day....Carnival did take care of us with ear plugs, 20% off our current cruise, and a 15% off our next cruise which I will be taking on the Breeze in Oct... In a cove balcony but at the main from of the ship with hopefully less noise. :) So I was a happy camper to say the lest.

I am looking at cove balcony cabins on the Breeze, and would love to hear back after you take this cruise! To have a break between the lifeboats above would be awesome. Not sure there's any way to know this ahead of time though- I don't think any maps would show this.

Are you sure you have the right cabin. Cabin 7323 is not a cove but an inside room on Empress deck. It is between two decks of cabins with no prep station anywhere near it. Did you mean 2373? Or was it a different cabin?

We were on the Dream August 3rd sailing. We had Cove Cabins 2330. 2334, 2338..never ever heard any noise from above. Right around the corner from the elevators. Mid-Ship. It was a perfect location. Didn't have any spray on the balconys. Little bit of salt on the rail, but wiped it off. Balcony doors closed very quietly also, which was surprising.

It was very east to get to everything located where we were.

Depending on the location yes you can get a lot of noise from above. Unfortunately our only experience with a cove was during Hurricane Sandy. They had to close off our balcony and for the rest of the trip we had to listen to the most awful banging that want on 24/7. I know that was an unusual situation but it was enough that we won't be booking another cove balcony.

We can soooo relate Relic!! We had our 1st cove balcony on the Dream, & it was during hurricane Sandy too. They closed it off, & it was the loudest, constant noise!! Reminded me of someone trying to close a door on a rusty, old pickup truck that sticks (noise factor magnified wayy louder)....pop, pop, blam!! It definitely kept us from sleeping!! We had already had trouble sleeping all week because of noise from above all week, & then this was added. We'll never get another cove again either, even though our experience wasn't "the norm", it was enough for us to steer clear.

We made the mistake of getting a cove under the galley toward the rear of the boat last summer and it was noisy all night long. Sounded like folks were bowling upstairs. Sliding pots and pans around, etc.

Our fault for not looking closer to where we were. Loved the room, just hated the noise.
