Breeze passenger reported via Facebook not too long ago that there was a man overboard as the ship sailed towards Jamaica. The ship stopped and had to turn around. The passenger just reported on Facebook that the Captain just announced life boat has rescued him and is alive! First a fire and now this! At least both stories have a happy ending!

The latest...

Sept. 7, 2015 -- At approximately 6.50pm US eastern time this evening, a male guest age 46, was witnessed jumping overboard from the Carnival Breeze while the ship was located north of Cuba. The ship's command promptly began search and rescue activities and the guest was quickly rescued. He is presently being evaluated at the ship's medical center. US Coast Guard has been notified, per standard protocol. Carnival Breeze is now proceeding to Montego Bay, Jamaica, its next scheduled port of call. The ship is based year-round in Miami.

Glad to hear the person was rescued. It will be interesting to hear the story on this one. I'm sure an announcement form the cruise hating cruiselaw news guy will be forth coming on how it is the cruise lines fault this person went overboard.

Since he is "alive" I think Carnival should send him a bill for the cost of the rescue as well as a $25 per passenger credit for wasting everyone's time.

On another note Carnival just lowered their number of drinks from 15 to 12 on the Cheers Program, one per hour, in an effort to avoid future drunken jumpers.

Was he trying to swim to Cuba?

Do we know for sure that this passenger was drunk and intoxicated? Perhaps he was just stupid, or was dared to, or perhaps he is mentally depressed. Many more reasons that the Cheers Program that may have led to this act.

It's all part of doing business. Constantly putting out fires. No matter what business you are in. Express Jet has to deal with an idiot employee that won't serve drinks because it's against her religion. Town in Kentucky has to deal with another rummy that won't issue a marriage license due to same lame excuse. Machines break down at factories all the time. A ship is similar, just a large machine. No matter if you maintain it meticulously stuff breaks then u fix it.

I'm sure the real reason they lowered the drinks to 12 is to make more money.

According to passengers onboard the Breeze, on Facebook, and a rescue video, the man was drunk at 8am, walking in & out of the pool fully dressed with regular clothes on. Security took him to his cabin go to sleep. Hours later he jumped overboard.

To find this info & rescue video, it can be found on Facebook or via a Google search.

Bottom line is...... Alcohol was the culprit.

Yes and alcohol is almost always the culprit! However he must have gotten blasted in his room to be drunk by 8 am. What time do the bars open onboard?

Now I'm going to search for the video. Lol.

Can someone validate the 15 down to 12 drinks comment or was that just in jest of the jumping fool?

I have the same question - I leave in less than 48 hours and I determined Cheers to be a good deal for us, but 12 drinks changes that math (if the price stays the same)!!!

FB post from my friend on this sailing: "Update on yesterday's man overboard saga. It appears that he was having "fun" and decided to have more fun so he donned his life vest and took a swim. He was placed in the brig and was escorted off the ship this morning in Jamaica."
