Hi All!

We will be sailing on the Voyager of the Seas on 3/31/07 and wondered if anyone knew who the best piano bar players were on RCCL.? I love the piano bar atmosphere and have been disappointed before on Carnival. The last time on the Legend the piano bar attracted 2 people per night!!!

I've heard that some of the piano bar players are incredible and woulld lover to attend one of their shows.

I also love the piano bar but have been very lucky on my Carnival cruises -- had 3 great piano bar players, 1 ok and 1 terrible. I hope we have a GREAT ONE on Navigator on 2/17. Anyone have any info?????

BTW - on the Carnival board, the piano bar thread is great, with some of the piano players participating.

C'mon RCI cruisers -- surely some of you are singers!

I was wondering the same thing. We are on the JOS 4/15 for a transatlantic. We were on Holland the last cruise and spent almost every night in the piano bar. Some family members were on an RCI cruise and said the piano bar was dead.

Dean knows a lot of songs, the history behind the songs, and nicely plays them. he likes to plan them in decades, so you can ask for say the 1930's and you can get songs from that time.

He is also an expert on the dining options ashore, and can provide lists of his favorite places.

Anselmo Boles is a great entertainer he was the piano guy for us 2 years in a row back in 03 and 04 but haven't seen him since. He would stay late if you asked him to. We had such a good time the one night the crew was asking us about it the next day.

We were on Jewel of the Seas 2 years ago this summer and Tommy McPhee was incredible. I just got back from another cruise on the Jewel and Tommy is no longer there (I asked someone and they said that they thought he was moving to another RCI ship). The replacement ("Vic") was TERRIBLE - and whoever said the piano bar was empty was right. I was so disappointed, especially since the other options on the ship weren't very good either, and I had booked the Jewel in large part due to my previous experience on the ship.

Anselmo was on my Feb. 2006 Brilliance Panama Canal cruise. He was great!!

The dueling piano players that can be found on the Sovereign class ships in Boleros (don't know if they are on there all the time or not) are great fun!!

As to the best piano players, oh CAROL! WHERE ARE YOU??

Ahem, I have been summoned.............and I appear.

I guess that I've been lucky. I've never encountered a *bad* piano guy. (SHUT UP, WRONA!)

This last cruise on the Enchantment, there was a new guy, Mike McCabe, in the Schooner. He was amazing.

You know how some guys know a lot of songs?

And some guys are really good with people?

And some guys are actually hidden piano virtuosos?

Well, he was all three. And, of course, he took to me right away. (SHUT UP, WRONA!)

He knew everything, from old standards to really current pop hits. He amused my kids and other 18-25 year olds, but he was really good in coaxing old guys to get up and dance to the standards! He was so sweet to some of the old couples who were obviously walking down memory lane.

And he realized that I could sing along with him on almost anything. And he appreciated my constant patronage. (SHUT UP, WRONA)

I think that it's a highlight of a cruise when you know that when the show is over, when it's after dinner, when you've had enough in the casino, you can go to the piano bar and relax and sing.

Now, the dueling pianos on Sovereign (and Monarch) are another story and entertainment entirely.

But the OP asked about Voyager, which has a standard Schooner piano bar entertainer.

I like 'em.

How about you? ;)

Anselmo (sp?) was great... was our piano player in March 2006 aboard the Brilliance...

Booked on Radiance this March and can only hope the Piano player is half as good!

RCCL... keep Anselmo!

The piano bar is one of my favorite hangouts too. On my last cruise, I don't remember the guy's name, but it was the first time I remember the piano player using what I would describe as "canned music" for accompaniment. It was probably a bunch of MP3 files or something similar, which included drums and other instrumentals to go along with the piano part.

I didn't like it.

Is this common? I much prefer the traditional "one singer, one piano" kind of piano bar music. Or if you're Billy Joel, then you can bring a harmonica... :) But canned? Please no!

We've seen Barry from Boston on the Jewel and Explorer over the past few years, and he was pretty good with a good crowd,

but I have to say my all time favorites were Steve and Mark on Sovereign last summer- they were hysterical and the crowd participation was great.

Navigator info anyone???

The piano player in the Schooner bar was Dan Davis, very good, but he's now on the Mariner. Guitarist in the Two Poets Pub on the NOS is Shane Tapper. He is very good and the atmosphere in the pub when he is playing is wonderful

Fishinglady: I just heard that Tommy McPhee is now on the Navigator (where we are headed in just over 2 weeks). I am so happy to see that you loved him! I see that the compasses say that the piano player is only 11 pm-1 am. Is that really it?? Please tell me more about him!!!
