Carnival cruise voucher in mail?

I received a voucher in the mail today for an 8 day Carnival cruise. And if I respond within 72 hours, I get free airfare. Is this a scam? Anyone else get this voucher? It looks legit but I know NOTHING is free!

Probably not legit, especially since it includes airfare. Is it from Carnival directly, or does the small print say something about a travel agency? Feel free to call Carnival and ask if they have any specials for you, or use your VIFP number on their website and check for yourself.

Did you call Carnival? I know some people were getting free cruises but I hadn't heard of them getting free airfare too? Maybe that is something new? I'm not sure but if it were mine I would be on the phone with Carnival. They are probably the only ones who would know if it was legit or not!! I hope for you it is!! Let us know what they say!

I know Carnival did send out some free cruise certificates, which as stated above you can verify by logging into your VIFP account, but I did not see where anyone who got them had free airfare. My guess, it is not from Carnival, and be leery and ask a lot of questions before you accept it!

A friend of my got one. It is for a presentation to join a travel club. She called (since she has heard me talk about cruising so much), and that's what she was told. She was also told that she would have to attend with her spouse. Since she is not married, she asked if she could give it to someone who is (me), but I wasn't interested in it.

I got one. It looks like it came from Carnival, I looked it over carefully to see it was a scam, but it certainly looks legit. I'm not joining a travel club, though so probably won't call.

I don't know if you could call it a SCAM, but it is definitely misleading. I got one yesterday, and I immediately did two things:

1. I checked my VIFP account, and there was no free cruise listed.

2. I did a search for the company that sent this out and learned it was a time share presentation.

It's a shame they picked up on Carnival's wonderful free cruise offers. Maybe both of us will eventually get one of those.:D

Happy sails.

Got time on your end, here's how you can have a bit of fun with them & turn the tables onto their offer - call from a landline & block your number (of course, they can usually still ID your # anyway.

When they answer, tell them "this call is being monitored and recorded for quality assurance purposes & future reference as mutual protection, shall we proceed" and if they said go ahead, "ask for their full name, telephone number & extension for call back just in case, along with their business/corporate name" and then, proceed to ask them about this post card offer in the name of your family pet (make one up, i.e. Sparky Terrier) and that you would like the offer to be transferred to a real person like yourself instead.

That should be get very interesting if they still haven't hang up the call on you already. "Wait, wait, please don't hang up on us - we are not finished yet - our office is tracing your call at this moment for identity theft purposes ..." "What city, town, state & zip code did you say you are located?" "Can you give me your full mailing address?" "Click - Dial Tone. "

We pulled that on one of those postcard offer a few years ago.

Travel club or otherwise - bottomline, they wanted your personal information and credit card/banking information, etc. If you are getting a casino offer, you know otherwise whether your level of play is in play or not. Don't be surprised to get a telemarketing call shortly if you aren't on the DNC list either .

If it looks like a scam and sounds like a scam, it probaby is a scam

And yet I wonder how many people ignored (and lost) the legitimate free cruise offer from Carnival. I probably would be one of them had I not read so much about it on Cruise Critic.

I have wondered myself if I threw a legit one away. I would not have been expecting mail from Carnival, and would have assumed it was the infamous time share offer!

call from a landline & block your number (of course, they can usually still ID your # anyway.

All calls to toll free numbers (800/866/877/855/etc) deliver your phone number since they're paying for the call. Doesn't matter if you've blocked your number or not.

Better would be to use one of the caller-ID spoofing services or set up a Google Voice number temporarily.

I got one of these "free cruise" mailings a couple days ago. It was just as described above. It was printed on a check. I had to tear off the perforated edges to open it. It looked legit at first and I was excited. I had read on CC about so many receiving free Carnival cruises that I had thought I was actually getting a free cruise.

I began to look a little closer at the check / certificate, Carnival is written in big letters. It also says free air if I respond within a certain time. All looked good. That's until I looked at the fine print, the offer is from a travel company. Also, no date listed.. um? what about my 72 hour deadline...lol.

I researched the travel company and quickly discovered this offer is bogus. Some people did fall for it. They were made to sit through a presentation then after jumping through tons of hoops got a credit for a cruise. They had to pay taxes, port charges, and other fees.... ended up costing as much if they had booked directly with Carnival. Oh and the free air fare? No one qualified because they were outside the 72 hour window even though they responded right away.... remember no date listed ;)

The offer looks legit at first glance but don't fall for it. BTW, I am wondering if Carnival gave this company permission to use their name and logo? If so I am disappointed that they would do business with a company that is obviously scamming people.
