And what about desserts?

Last year while the wife was going spastic at the chocolate buffet and first dibs as a suite guest, I just sat aside. The captain came up and asked if I didn't like chocolate and I responded, "I just didn't have enough estrogen to enjoy it." He put his hand on my shoulder sighed and said, "I understand."

I have yet to figure out how they get the chocolate desserts to taste nothing like chocolate. And sometimes they jiggle like jello....the only good chocolate cake that I had was a raspberry chocolate cake I think it was.

From my Sun cruise in March 2013 I remember the Tira Misu Cake.

And a great pineapple dessert something in Moderno.

In our family we like to wait for dessert. So I usually did not order dessert in a dining room but rather waited to see what sweet treat the butler brought us. Teresa was fantastic. She brought a regular plate for me and a sugar free plate for my mom. Those sugar free ones were darn good too!!!

NCL has the worst desserts. I've cruised on NCL, RCCl, Celebrity, and Carnival. The best is the creme brûlée on Celebrity, which is available every night in the MDR. The desserts at the NCL buffets (garden cafe) are the worst. Many are gelatinous based and lousy. This is a NCL fleet wide problem, not confined to any particular ship. Sometimes you can get a decent dessert in the MDR and I suspect that the desserts in the specialty restaurants are pretty good. NCL VP Klaus Lugmaier should take notice.

I did forget about these when I posted before:

creme brulee and chocolate fondue - both in LeBistro

carrot cake - only offered at lunch in Cagney's, so only for suite guests and VIPs.

Cagney's has raspberry creme brulee in the evenings but I didn't like it. I think it had to do with ratio, if that makes any sense. The dish used was much deeper than a ramakin normally used for it. The ratio was just off with too much of the custard compared to the crunchy carmalized sugar top.

Most NCL desserts are pretty horrible. Bland, dry, waxy, look good, no flavor. Unless you get something from a specialty dining venue. There is the rare MDR or buffet dessert that is ok.

Generally I stick with ice cream, soft serve, or the made to order crepes in the buffet.

I have to agree with most of the statements about the flavorless desserts in the MDRs and buffet.

The best desserts are found in the specialty restaurants.

I have also found that at night in the casino they put out some great desserts , cookies that you will not usually find in the restaurants

I have found on all my cruises, all lines, that the desserts in the buffet look a whole lot better than they taste. Occasionally have a good one. Sad.....and not sure why! I don't like to cook but do a better job with sweets!

Not IME. Friend and I each ordered different in Teppanyaki, Moderno and LeBistro. We agreed they were all below average. NCL could use some good pastry chefs!

The best dessert we had was the cheese plate in the MDR. It was average BUT it tasted like it looked; cheesy!

Hmmmm.... what is your recommendation for desserts at MDR?

Just returned from our 2nd NCL cruise (cause we liked it so much better than our previous cruise line) in under a year. My husband is very picky about what he eats (he's a connoisseur of plain, not fancy food) and loves NCL's NY Signature Cheesecake. On our 2nd cruise we also discovered the Raspberry Truffle cake. He ordered one of each on the nights we ate in the MDR (both were on the menu every night and neither are available on the buffet). There were 5 us us traveling together and we all loved those two desserts. My 24yo daughter also fell in love with the Bread Pudding.

I don't enjoy cooking either, and love when someone else does it for me. I love the good old fashioned Jello from the buffet, as well as ice cream.

The only problem we had with desserts on NCL were the amount of weight

we put on during our stay.... Takes lot longer losing those pounds and

even longer getting ready for the next cruise...

I usually skip desserts in the MDR (though a sherbet or sorbet have been known to call out to me), I'd rather wait a while, digest and get a custom made crepe up in the buffet. Last cruise, the lemon & blueberry was a favorite.

We do this a lot as well.

On Gem last May, we felt desserts were much better than a few years ago. It was our fourth NCL cruise. We liked it so much booked same for this May.

We always find something. I heard that the Blue Lagoon has some good one. I am on the Gem for the 2nd time on 5/31. How about you?
