All Things Splendor

There are 2 benches, and that's it. But there were hardly anybody there when we were there. Very few people know the place, hence the name "secret doors".

I can't wait to try and find this area. I might have to book a cruise before my cruise so I don't have to wait so long. :)

I'm not sure which side is better. I have my first balcony cabin booked and it's starboard. I hope someone will let us know what they think.

I love the STARBOARD side.

Here's why:

In Long Beach, you get to see the Queen Mary.

I have cruised on the Splendor since last May 09, I think I have cruised 5 times already on the Splendor. The crew workers already know my name.

They laugh with joy when they see me. I am a silly funny senior who loves to have fun.

For those of you who have never been to the Long Beach port.... if you look at the photo posted of the AFT DECK POOL you will see the city of Long Beach. The ship had not left the port yet. LOL, LOL.

The photo of the Queen Mary Ship Hotel is located within walking steps of the Carnival cruiseport. You can just walk to the cruise port if you spend the night at the Queen.

Ask for the Carnival discount. I think it is still $99. If they say they don't have that deal.... just wait a week and call back and you will get the deal.lol.

Hey Ms.So.Cal.Cruiser - I noticed you have cruised a lot on the Paradise which is a FUN SHIP too. The food is a lot better on the Splendor. You will see a big difference. The Splendor Buffet is more spacious with high celings. They have a Burrito Bar where they make you a special burrito.

The CAT. 1-A cabins are really cutsy and nice. There are some that have extra space and very nice. Try to check them out on the ship.

I like to play progressive Trivia just for fun. I always get my own group named the FRIENDSHIP CLUB. We all have a blast!

I will be cruising on Dec. 12th too. It will be a lot of fun because the ship will be decorated with Christmas trees and will look real festive.

RED CARPET DISCO- has different activities in their during the day or night. One night I was passing by and I noticed everybody was dancing to the Michael Jackson Thriller video. They had t.v."s where you could look at the video and dance along. I joined in. It was a blast!

T.V. in cabins - Carnival has it set-up to show the channels from Denver, Colorado. I get to see my favorite t.v. shows. Plus, Denver news and CNN news. On my last Carnival cruise I got to see the Haiti earthquake news on CNN. I was better informed than my friends back home.lol.

I like to watch t.v. while I am getting dressed or just resting in my cabin.

I like to eat so the best cabins are near Mid-ship or AFT which are located near the buffet and restaurants.lol. Lucy R.

See you all at roll call for the Dec. 12th cruise when someone starts it.

Presently I am at the Halloween Oct. 31st roll call for the Splendor. LucyR.

LucyR - I have many wonderful memories from crusing on the Paradise. I went on my one and only solo cruise on this ship. Hurricane Norbert kicked my booty but it was still fun. During the cruise I received many text msgs. from friends who were worried about me. But I had a great time!

What's it like doing a 7 day solo on the Splendor? Do you ever get lonely? I've been thinking of trying a solo again.

I'm happy to know that my mid-ship cabin is closer to the food! :D

Happy crusing to you!!!

And if there's still not enough reasons, how about 3 beautiful sunsets on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday:

Yes, there is a secure lock on the balcony doors. Make sure to always keep it locked and closed and don't leave clothes or towels on the balconies due to window and balcony washers who will wash your balcony windows. The crew come up through the side of the ship to clean it.

Ms. S.CA.CRUISER - You will never be lonely on the Splendor. There are lots of people to meet if you cruise SOLO. I do it all the time now.

I love having my own space and it is very affordable if you book way in advance.

I am only paying the price for one person total price for a Cat.1-A. for the Dec. 12th cruise. The cabin is beautiful and spacious. The Cat.1-A's sell out real fast.

Carnival has the bad habit of showing those ugly cabins with the bunk-beds for the cat.1-A's. Those don't exist on the Splendor. The second bed is hidden in the ceiling. The cabin steward has the special key to bring down the bed.

My cruiser friend got tired of cruising with me so now I cruise solo. It is so hard to find friends to cruise with. Some friends are super high maintenance which means they would want me to spend all of my time with them. I prefer to cruise alone than to take a friend who thinks we are still in high school.lol.

I like to choose anytime dinning so I can meet lots of people. Plus, I eat when I want to. There is always room for one more person at a large table to share.

I make friends with the Trivia people and the Kareoke singers.

I love to go shopping on the Splendor. I like to look at everything.

I love to dance too and I just get on the dance floor and dance by myself and then people will join me too.lol. LucyR.

I was just on the Splendor last week. I can add a few things about the ship that I learned while I was there.

The Splendor's Your Time (anytime) Dining option will be available starting in a few weeks (week of May 30).

I was told by more than one member of the bar staff that Sports Bar ("Our House") was going to be made non-smoking (wasn't sure if this was as a test or permanently) in the near future. This is the bar accessed from the casinos and is next to the port side gift shop.

You can get to the Serenity Deck (deck 12) via stairs or via an small elevator on deck 11 on the port side of the ship on the way into the Spa.

At the port side pool bar by the covered pool (where the movie screen is), they make popcorn for the movies. The price of a cup was either $1 or $1.50 (I didn't hear them for sure as it was loud).

The movies at the pool and on the 3 TV channels, except for Avatar which they showed the last night by the pool, were not the most recent vintage on my trip. For example, one day, one of the kid channel movies was Night at the Museum (not the more recent Night at the Museum 2).

Thanks again for all the information..has anyone had 4 in a balcony cabin..we were going to get connecting OV rooms but my soon ro be 7 year old twins go down fairly early so i opted for the balcony so we can have a place to sit and relax once the boys are in bed..or should I say for me to sit and relax while my husband is playing cards!

Lisa, My advice is to get two Ocean view cabins with connecting doors.

My main reason is for the safety of your 7yr.old twins. The balconies are not safe if your kids decide to sit on the ship rails when you are not looking. It is so easy to get on top of a chair and jump or fall overboard on the balconies. I have tested it to see if it is possible to move a lounge chair close to the rails and it is possible to sit on the rail.

Plus, eventhough the secure lock is high up.... do you think your kids are sharp enough to open the secure lock by getting on top of a chair from the cabin? There are a couple of chairs and a sofa in the cabins.

Yes, balconies are very nice for adults but not for kids I think. It is just me who thinks that way.

If you get two cabins you will have two restrooms and two t.v.'s and two refrigerators, two sofas, two safes, 4 twin beds, two telephones, two front doors, two ocean views, lots of space. Extra closet space.

But most of all, you will have peace of mind that your kids are safe.

Don't pay attention to me.... I am just a "Nervous NELLY". LucyR.

Lisa, I don't agree with Lucy, the last time I cruised with my children they were 3 and 6. We had a "no standing on the chairs on the balcony" rule. We told them that if we caught their feet anywhere but on the floor of the balcony, that they wouldn't be allowed to go out there, and we also told them that they weren't allowed to open the door to the balcony without telling one of us first.

The rail is REALLY high and is glassed in below. Unless you plan on leaving your kids in the room alone, running amok, I don't believe there is anything to worry about. At 7, they will be able to see over the rail, but honestly, just barely!

I love a balcony. My children LOVE the kids club, so much so that I that I don't get to see them much and I love sitting on the balcony, reading a page in my book, staring at sea, reading the page again, staring at sea, having to reread that page AGAIN, haha!!!
