All Things Splendor

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

We sail in 2 weeks (woohoo!) and I wonder if anyone has tips on embarking at Long Beach. What's the best time to get there...are there any tips on where to go, sit, bring, etc? We have a friend dropping us off so we won't need to worry about parking.

There is excellent bench-style seating under large shade awnings just outside the large domed embarcation center. You can mosey over to the QUEEN MARY and look around there or take a tour if you come early enough. Pics of the grounds at the embarkation area in my WEBSHOTS below.

This embarkation is easily my favorite. :)

Is this the ship that's replacing the Miracle? If so, tell me please, is the entire aft section of Lido non-smoking as well as Serenity and when will the switch take place?

Are there any cabins that are sold as a certain category but are actually better than the category they are sold as? For example, Spirit class ships have cabin 5236, sold as an obstructed view (or used to be), but have a large balcony.

Thanks for any help.

Yesterday, I booked the SPLENDOR again for the 3rd time on the April 29th voyage. Can't let her get away without enjoying her one more time.:D

Usually book 3-5 days before the cruise, so this 4 week wait is going to be a killer for me.

I would like to know this also. Is there smoking in the AFT Lido? Thank you

I know some of the smoking rules have changed, but last time we were on the Splendor the entire aft area was non-smoking (maybe because food is served back there), but there was a close smoking area just above on deck 10 overlooking the aft pool. It seemed to be crowded most of the time. The Serenity was non-smoking as well and probably still is.

We just booked the Splendor for this upcoming September. I'm kind of nervous about Hurricanes during this time...but I know Mexico doesn't experience that many hurricanes...so we took the chance and booked it b/c the price was low. Has anyone else sailed to Mexico in September and had any problems?

We ran into Hurricane Rick a while back on the Splendor (late October) and had a change in itinerary, but otherwise the captain did a good job of avoiding the hurricane. Just one day was pretty rough and the pools were sloshing out so they eventually closed them for a while. The next day was just fine.

We're doing the same, but not until September, just one last time before she leaves us. We just sailed the Spirit twice within 5 months for the same reason!

I will concur with cathy on this. The ENTIRE aft Lido deck is No Smoking. Deck 10 (Panorama Deck) just above the Lido pool is for smokers. Plenty of room on this deck also. Great for Gin Rummy.

I loved the Spirit also and so glad when the SPLENDOR leaves we are getting the MIRACLE (the last of the Spirit Class) Just love this layout. However, I understand it will be used in a limited capacity out of Long Beach ?

The burrito bar is good, but the chips that they give you are wimpy. After getting your burrito go to the hamburger grill that is midship on the Lido and pick up some of these yummy chips to go with the burrito. I think they may be a best kept secret!

Yep, that's right, the Miracle will sail to the MR only in the winter, and sail Alaska in the summer, with a few Hawaii trips in between. So no 7-day or longer cruises to MR from Long Beach anymore in the summer (not that we go then anyway, but it will put more pressure on Spring / Fall.)

Hi friends, can someone tell us what time we have to be back on the ship the first night we are in Cabo. We would like to enjoy some Cabo nightlife while the ship is in port for the night.

Is this possible??

No, the first day the ship departs at 6:00 and the second day it departs at 4:00. Too bad. They want you to enjoy the nightlife on the ship!

I don't understand, where does the ship go the first night? I thought it stayed in the bay while in Cabo

The ship leaves the port and goes to international waters so that they can open the casino and shops. You can stay overnight in Cabo if you want, you just need to notify the ship. The only problem with this is that if for some reason the ship isn't able to return to port the next day (rough water prevents tenders, etc.) you would be responsible for your own transportation to the next port of call.

We'll be sporting our sad faces as we debark shortly before you are embarking... ugh :(;)
