Recap of first-time-ever NCLer going on EPIC . . .

On our Epic cruise we had folks ranging from 9 to 73 years old, and we all loved the ship. There are SO many things you can do that you will never get bored, and sitting on your balcony watching the sea go by never gets old.

Here are Epic's eating establishments, including current prices. 18 eating options, half free, half pay

......And many Thanks goes out to "The Man", Don for his extensive review of the Norwegian Epic.

Being loyal fans of NCL ourselves, it was nice to read how indepth he was able to focus his attention on the Norwegian Experience, and relay that back to others for enjoyment.

Having sailed on other cruise lines, I can certainly appreciate that....

The Norwegian Way IS the only way!

Our upcoming "Epic" experience, scheduled for departure on April 19, 2014..(yes you read that date correctly), is something that we are so looking forward to, especially the luxuries of "The Haven".

Being part of the younger crowd it takes us a little extra time to save up our pennies to travel in the suites, but once you do it.......you'll never look back.

Respectfully,

Don I really enjoyed your review. In fact your review convinced me I need to experience this ship myself.

So I'll be sailing on her November 2nd next year as the first part of what I titled the ultimate back to back/showdown. I'll be sailing Epic first and then heading to Fort Lauderdale to sail on the new Royal Princess

I'll definitely come back here to do a review on it. It won't be as good as yours but then again I think hardly anyone can top your reviews :D

If Mr. Don (the cruise review gu-ru) can supply any real pictures of the Epic's Haven Suites interiors, that would really be an added blessing/bonus.

We are presently booked into one of the 2 bedroom suites on deck 17.

NCL is known for its Aft Facing Penthouses & Owners Suites, but unfortunately, Epic wasn't designed with this in mind.

Her "Best of the Best" are located either overlooking the bow (been there, done that), or overlooking the pool deck (???). Somehow, I just can't convince myself to shell out the extra $$ to have a romantic glass of wine whilst the masses view it from below......

..(and I'm sure they might not enjoy the morning coffee show in the undies, either, but you never know as we are actually fit.)

....but anyway, we would much rather enjoy the sea going by........

And.......that meant booking the Next Best, the two bedroom suite......

Besides.......I've read that the bathroom shower is to die for........

Holds 2 people, and has glass walls overlooking the sea....

Now that's what I call "good clean fun.":)

If you follow the SmugMug link in my signature, and scroll down to the Epic 2/26/11 - you'll find some pics of our cabin (2 BR). Not sure if I got any of the balcony... it was too small to sit out there and get it in the picture too!

Thank You Tom and Cheryl for the pictures....

Was wondering what your "impressions" of staying in one of the suites was?

Were you able to view one of the larger Owners Suites that overlook the pool?

Any additional information that you feel important, would be appreciated.

We enjoyed the experience - enough to return again later in the year (same cabin - #17018). The balcony, as I mentioned, is really a shame. We like to hang out there to read/relax, but that's not as easy when you have no room for a lounger. Never took a look inside other suites. I never even really considered them as the forward ones seemed like they would be useless at sea, and the ones overlooking the pool deck seemed to sacrifice some privacy... also the premium charged for those seemed like unnecessary $'s spent (though the same argument could be made for my casino budget).

Staying in the Haven area has its benefits - being a few steps away from the Epic Club, as well as it (the Haven) being the location from which priority seating to shows departs.

Knowing all of this we opted for an aft facing penthouse suite (outside of the Haven) for our Breakaway sailing next year -- I know someone else who will be going on that cruise (and his name rhymes with RON... hint, hint :p)!!! Even with the walk to the Haven restaurant and priority seating, having a larger private balcony was desired. Additionally, getting an elevator from the 16th/17th floor of the Haven was often time consuming. Our location on the Breakaway is several decks down, which will permit the use of stairs (a couple of flights) to get to most of our destinations.

You'll have to give us a review of the Breakaway when you return as that's another ship that sounds very intriguing :D

I will defer to Don! After what he accomplished with his Epic review, if his review on the Breakaway (you know it'll be "expected" Don!) is even half the piece of work, it will still be a great read!

:D

Will share that one with some co-workers for a chuckle. They know my strong (and vocal) fear of Carpal Tunnel development for close to the same thing. We've got this 'unique' piece of CRM software that requires multiple mouse click instead of tabbing. Beyond frustrating, since I use it for about 90% of my work.

Thank You Tom and Cheryl for the pictures....

My thanks to T-n-C, as well, for the perfect resource. Greatly appreciated! :)

I will defer to Don!

Hey, I'll make ya a deal . . .

I'll agree to posting my Breakaway recap (albeit WAY less involved) when we get back, if you'll promise to participate with your own details like on this one. More fun that way. :)

T n' C......

Thank you for the information on the Epic...

We also can appreciate why you would be booking that Aft Facing Balcony aboard the Breakaway.

What a shame that they left out the suites in this area on the Epic.

I know that when I do sail aboard Breakaway, I will be watching the wake and enjoying........

Don,

I've actually read this whole thing twice and will likely have another go before October. I read it when you originally posted and again when I booked my first studio for the October Transatlantic.

I just realized when I saw it again, that the little checkmark isn't there showing that I've commented on it.

It's been far too long, and just wanted to say thank you. I was really hoping that you would join us on the transatlantic in October, it would have been great. I think you'd be a joy to cruise with. Tom and Cheryl seem awesome too.

I'm doing the Epic on my own and leaving the husband and kids at home, so it will truly be a whole new cruising experience for me. Our roll call is full of great people and I already feel I know the studio area inside and out thanks to you.

Please keep writing awesome reviews. I'm surprising my husband with the Chef's Table next month on the Star following your other review.

Thanks for taking your time to help so many of us :)

One (somewhat) last thing . . . .

If anyone is still confused about that very first post . . . .

:D I had a good time!! :D

Thanks for the review!! I am booked in the studio (12500) Dec. 1, 2012. Was nervous about being "squashed" in, but now it sounds as if I will have a wonderful time! I can't wait to go!

What a wonderful review, thank you so much for taking the time to post it! I have not sailed NCL, have sailed with Princess and Carnival...and though I have had lots of fun on both lines...I think my next cruise will be on NCL. They seem to have so many different options, lots of awesome entertainment, and just a totally different vibe. Thank you again Don and happy sailing to you!

I believe we need to send NCL a note saying that Don deserves a free Epic cruise (Dec 10th sailing of course) as his commission for getting all of the new bookings:D

I agree! I will be stepping out of my comfort zone and booking this ship because of Don's fabulous review! Hope to figure out when he's going and get on that roll call. Best review ever! Don, your writing style is very engaging! Thanks.
