Default Snorkeller dies from Norwegian Dawn

Breaking News from the Norwegian Dawn

Police on the Caribbean island of Dominica say a Canadian tourist has died after a snorkeling outing from a cruise ship.
Divisional Commander Yvonne Alexander says 61-year-old Yvette Prince was with friends when she apparently started struggling in the water and then collapsed back on shore.
Alexander says CPR was administered on the scene but Prince was declared dead Tuesday after arriving at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Prince was from Quebec and was a passenger on the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship.

Very sad. I think we all try to do so much on a vacation, and if we are older and out of shape and panic! this can be a dangerous sport.

You need to know your physical limitations with any sport, and snorkeling is one of the safest sports to participate in if you are fit. I'm 75 years old, lap swim four days a week, and snorkeled 3 days in the Caribbean in February/

Wow, sad, but I am starting to wonder, why does bad stuff always happen on the Dawn? Wasnt the Dawn the NCL ship that listed badly during a storm, and wasnt it the one that the woman "fell" off her balcony? Now this, are some ships cursed?

And before you all pile on, I actually SAILED on the Dawn a few years back, it's a nice ship, but I wasnt crazy about NCL Freestyle.

This is so sad....

but it is reminder why hubby and MIL (she is over 70) will be snorkeling off the beach in Hawaii in a protected cove rather than on the more strenous ship excursion.

She has never snorkeled before and the ship excursion is marked "moderate"...we thought the cove was a better idea.

Slow news day I guess. Very sad. We were just talking about the snorkelling excursions we have been on. There have been a few times that I have worried about a few of the guests. So very sad.

This happened to one of my best friends from high school in the Bahamas. She had just gotten married on the ship and they went to a private island. Her DH had a major heart attack while snorkeling and passed away the day after they were married. It was really sad.

Default Champagne Cove

This is very sad. I was there that same morning. Champagne Cove is a difficult shingle and rock area--not a sand beach-- and one of the most difficult places imaginable to administer CPR. The first responders are to be commended for their immediate and valiant efforts. Some of them were other snorkelers/ cruise ship passengers. It took the paramedics 25 minutes to arrive and up to then the first responders worked on her continuously. Deepest sympathy to her husband and family.
