February isn't really peak sailing time for kiddos, unless you've booked over President's Day Weekend.

Earlier Feb seems to be better, based on our experience. I think regardless you will be fine as long as you don't go when some schools have their winter break (this happens in Feb in GA), but I'm sure it's different everywhere. Loved the Navigator, have a great cruise!

Sorry but there will never be an RCI kid-free cruise. It is a cruise line geared toward family and enjoying each other; it's perfect for all age groups. Just so you know, I've read on these boards that there are adults-only lines but I hear they are very expensive.

If you really want kid-free, book Holland America and 9+ days.

A really kid free cruise on Holland America doesn't exist either. Our last 3 HAL cruises were 11, 15, and 16 days which all had at least a few kids. Not a problem for us. Maybe the closest we've come was a 16 day on a Princess small ship that had one toddler.

Explorer of the Seas might not be in Bayonne in 2014. Captain Olav, who is on Explorer right now said he is almost certain that one of the new Sunshine class ships will be in New York/Bayonne.

I would do a quick search of Mardi Gras dates. Every resident in New Orleans LEAVES that week and all the tourist show up. School is out the entire week of Mardi Gras so many families use the time for a trip. We try and do the same. Three years ago we went to Disney during Mardi Gras and the crowds ... WOW. We were at the magic Kingdom and the entire park was filled with folks from New Orleans wearing their purple green and gold. HA Ha

The Mardi Gras season usually starts on Twelfth night and runs until Ash Wednesday. As there are so many drunk tourist and its hard even to make it to the grocery store in the traffic and crowds it is a force to keep in mind when traveling to touristy type places (or cruises).

Good point about Mardi Gras........I read a few posts this year about people missing the ships because of the traffic.....it took HOURS just to go a short distance.

If you truly want a "fewer children" cruise I would do a longer cruise (8 days or more), and maybe to a different destination . .. Alaska, Med, Europe. I would also choose October or early May.

Although, I have to say, RCI does such a good job enterntaining the kids that I have rarely had any problems . ..

Good luck.

If you really mean "kid free" then you had better look at another cruise line. RCI markets itself toward families. It doesn't matter what week of the year it is. There will be kids aboard.

another thing to keep in mind is lack of a precruise hotel room...mardi gras time usually equals NO hotel rooms up to a year in advance.

The one and only time we went to Mardi Gras was in 2003.....at that time RCCL had a ship(Nordic Empress) that left from Tampa....went to NO for 3 nights......the ship was our hotel. It was great. We could walk to everything. To me,it was the only way to go spend time in NO for Mardi Gras.

Wish they would do that again..

Kid free and RCI do not go hand in hand. I suggest looking at Celebrity or Holland America. RCI's main focus is families.

Mardi Gras can be a blast!!!! However if you live here and experience it every year for your entire life it gets old. Locals have to deal with a lot during the season. Mostly from the younger college aged groups but also the traffic, tons of drunks and higher prices. All the prices in the city are hiked up for Mardi Gras.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my city. The culture and history is wonderful. I (like most locals) am not a fan of Mardi Gras. It was tons more fun back in the day before it became a mecca for drunk college kids.

If anyone ever wanted to cruise and hit New Orleans during a fun time, look into Jazz Fest. This is TONS and TONS of fun. It doesn't draw the drunk, throwing up and peeing in the streets crowd that Mardi Gras does. There are always famous singers playing as well. Its all very laid back and easy going.
