Default Dinner Reservations

Dinner reservations have opened on our 19 night Mariner Auckland to LA cruise in December. It's as usual only one reservation per restaurant at this stage. I'm assuming there will be greater opportunity on a cruise of that length on board but what is the procedure? Head to the Maitre d' on boarding?

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to reserve a table for one?

That is an interesting question. I know that when we have travelled with our son (thus a party of 3), we reserved a table for 4, but they didn't put anyone with us. I have seen solo diners several times in Signatures, so I figure they must let you do this.

Hi turtlemichael. I booked our two reservations as well for our upcoming cruise.

As first time Regent cruisers, I have a stupid question. I thought the dress code in the specialty restaurants was the same as the rest of the ship for dinner. Is Signatures and Prime 7 always jackets required every night?

Observer: when you book your reservation on line, it only gives you the option of 2,4,6. If you are concerned about making a reservation, I would go ahead and make it for 2 and then speak to the Maitre'd to help you with this once on board -- or ask someone to join you whom you meet!

It's my understanding that a jacket is required in these rooms until January, or until the New Years cruises.

In Signatures, jacket is always required. It technically isn't in Prime 7, but my husband wore one as it is a more formal venue.

From what I understand after the New Year's cruise no jackets will be required anywhere on cruises of 15 days or less. Actually, they are not required any more at all, even on longer cruises. Wearing formal on those cruises has is now optional on some nights.

My original question still stands if a regular can possibly answer. My only experience is on Navigator without the wide selection of dining venues.

To get further restaurant reservations after the initial two, do you tackle the Maitre d' on boarding or do you need to ring every day?

This is a difficult question to answer because they are changing two out of three dining venues in a couple of weeks. If you are in a butler suite, just ask him to make the additional reservations for you. Otherwise, I would approach the Maitre d' in La Veranda after you board as they will be open for lunch.

You should not have a problem getting additional reservations on a 19 night cruise. We were able to dine in Prime 7 and Signatures twice on an 11 night cruise (and could have gone an additional time).

Since you'll be on the Navigator right after dry dock, hope you'll post when on board and give us a review of the almost "new" ship.

Sorry, I confused you. We are on Mariner. My previous Regent cruise was on Navigator with its limited restaurant choice.

So the question is: What is the procedure on Mariner for getting additional specialty restaurant reservations?

All the ships are the same I believe. Go to the maitre'd of the restaurant you're interested in, either near the end of lunch service, or when the venue opens in the evening. Or, the first night you're dining in that venue, just speak to the maitre'd as you're leaving. And yes, if you have a butler, ask the butler to work it out for you.

Or the maitre'd in Compass Rose can book in any of the other restaurants for you.
