Default Not Carnival related but...

I'm sure that some folks are aware that the RCCL Oasis of the Seas is making her way to Port Everglades at this moment.

She was scheduled to arrive on Nov. 11 but it appears she's going to be a few days late. The North Atlantic was showing her who's boss by tossing seas of up to 40 feet at her and near hurricane force winds.

You can see a bit of the seas at this link:

http://oasisoftheseas.com/

Click on the 'Blue Seas Green Practices' thingy below the video window... Pretty cool...

That's too funny.....the first thing I noticed was the wiper blades. Isn't there a better system?

That was my biggest fear when they started talking about building something THAT big.

What it was like being tossed about!

My real concern, and perhaps what drove them south, is harmonics... At that length the ship can easily span crest to crest... Not a good thing...

The other thing that caught my eye was that there is nothing there. Some sort of cockpit on one side assume there is something on the other side. Anything in the middle? Of course I have never been on a bridge....well I have been on many bridges but not any on a cruise ship!

Nope, the main console is only a small cabinet in the middle. The rest is all for look-outs.

Main navigation and chart plotting is behind the bridge so night lights do not affect the bridge look-outs.

I was surprised to hear that on most maiden voyages of new ships they run with a full ship of passengers, but not the Oasis of the Seas, they are crossing the Atlantic with only 55 percent of the ship full. To have 45 percent of the cabins being empty is not a good sign for a new ship. That ship is just to big for me, I will stick with my Spirit Class on Carnival.

Your info is not accurate. This is not a revenue trip. All the people on board are workers who are putting on the finishing touches.

The "Actual Maiden Voyage" is in Dec. Right now they are just sailing from the ship yard to the home port of FLL. with just crew on board.

If you go to RCI board you can read more on the oasis of the sea thread

William Wright is an excellent spokesperson.

It's been so long since I've sailed with an English speaking Captain that..well, it's been too long. I intend no disrespect for the Italian Captains of Carnival, but it's time they went away.

Wow. She's just too big for me... I'm thinking the Dream is going to be a little too big for me too, though. Thanks for the links for the videos, Mach!

If the Italian captains went away there would be no one to steer the ship except you and me, Paul!!!

Thanks for sharing Mach! I think cruising on her is one of those things you might have to do at least once in your life! She really looks amazing.

Mach,

What a blast that would be eh?

Full speed from Miami to Half Moon Cay for our first port of call.

Our second port of call the next day would be San Juan to take on supplies.

Our third day would find us again in Half Moon Cay.

Then a Fun day at sea.

A stop for a full day at St Thomas with tender service to St John would be next.

Then a Fun Day at Sea.

Then another Fun Day at Sea.

Our final port of call would be Half Moon Cay.

Our arrival in Miami would be delayed due to running aground on Half Moon Cay thus ending our NINE day Friday to Sunday cruise! The ship would become an excursion of deep sea diving enthusiests made environmentally friendly by our flushing out the fuel tanks and refilling with potent mixtures from San Juan.........

I wonder if they'd allow us to borrow Holiday for this charter? The free press coverage would more than pay for the lost revenue from not selling Holiday.

Paul, we are kindred spirits... Yep... that itinerary sounds about perfect but I think I need another sea day in there.

I'm sure you know the story about how Carnival got named 'The Fun Ships' so running the vessel aground would be perfect!!!!

We've GOTTA sail together!!!
