First time in Venice
Looking for someone who has been to Venice before to suggest a four star hotel for around US $300.00. Also want to find a taxi service to pick up at Dock and take to hotel and then hotel to airport.
Any input would be great......

We have been very pleased using Venere http://www.venere.com/italy/venice/ to book our hotels in Venice. You can sort by # of stars or rate. They have accurate reviews based on our prior experience. There is no need to pre-book water taxis, as there are always plenty at the dock by the cruise terminal. The cost of a water taxi from the dock to most hotels in central Venice is about 100 euros. As was previously suggested, sign on to your roll call to see if you can get people to share the cost. Most water taxis can take 6 -8 people. You can always book the trip to the airport through your hotel. Chances are there will be people at the hotel to also share the cost. The cost of a water taxi from central Venice to the airport will run about 120 euros.

We were also very pleased with Venere. Suggest you don't limit your search to 4 star, as you might be pleasantly surprised with hotels in superb locations, with unique atmosphere, and great service, with lesser stars.

We enjoyed staying at Abbazia Hotel, a spacious former abbey, with rare courtyard, near the Railway Station.

so if the water taxi cost 100 euros it is then dividers by the
number of people in the taxi? At the dock do the water taxi's wait until they are all filled before they leave?

One more question hotel to airport can you take a water taxi right to the Airport or do you have to then change to a car.

Correct. The 100 euros is for the boat not PP. The water taxis are private and go to a specific location/hotel, so you will need to arrange your own group. They will not wait to fill up.

If you are staying in the San Marco area you can take the Alilaguna water bus www.alilaguna.com from the port to San Marco for 6.5 euros PP and then walk to your hotel from the Alilaguna stop. We did this on our last trip without a problem. Just be sure that you are able to handle your own luggage.

The water taxis dock at the airport. Its a 7 min walk from the dock to the terminal building. There are porters at the dock that will drive you and luggage for 35 euros. We walked it. No problem. You can also take the Alilaguna water bus www.alilaguna.it from San Marco to the Airport for 13 euros PP.

We stayed at the Hotel La Locandiera www.lalocondiera.com located on a lovely little campo about 5 min walk from San Marco. 150 euros including a very good buffet breakfast. We highly recommend it.

you might try a hotel in the p. roma area, near the bus terminal and vaporetto terminal. that way you can use a regular taxi to/from the airport or bus(which has lots of room for luggage) and WAY cheap!! its a very handy area to stay in.

We stayed at both the Molino Stucky (Priceline bid) and The Westin Europa (SPG points) It is so much easier to get to the sights in Venice on the water bus when you have no luggage. The Molino is across from the main tourist area and has a shuttle boat. The Westin requires either a water taxi or not too much luggagge if you plan to take the alliguna
We decided that if we ever went back to Venice we would stay closer to the transportation areas than the tourist areas. (The Piazelle Roma)

We decided that if we ever went back to Venice we would stay closer to the transportation areas than the tourist areas. (The Piazelle Roma)

That is why we chose to stay near the Rail and Bus Stations - convenient inexpensive bus from right outside airport arrivals to Venice, then train (almost next door to Abbazia Hotel) from Venice to Cortina - so easy. Venice is a walker's paradise (for fit people, as it is constantly up and down little bridges).

There will be cabs right outside the terminal too,so you have that option too

Thanks all ..Now I just have to find a hotel and then some people to share water taxi. Did anyone do tours from outside guide? If so can you suggest a tour guide.
