If you want to go to Tulum I would highly recommend taking a ship excursion. Don't try it on your own. If something happens you will not make the ship. Usually I do my own excursions but we did not here when we went to Tulum.
You need to take the water shuttle from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen which is about 45 minutes. Then the drive down to Tulum is about an hour or a little less. All of this would be included in your price thru the ship. Take lots of sunscreen and a hat. It gets hot at Tulum.

I agree with Sky616--I wouldn't be comfortable going THAT far from the ship without a guarantee that I'll make it back on time!
We did an excursion to Tulum and Xel Ha through Princess three years ago that wound up being VERY late, both departing and getting back to the ship. The ferry from Playa del Carmen wound up taking us directly to the ship (Golden Princess); it was after dark and well past our scheduled departure time, but because we booked through the ship they held it for us (and about 125 other passengers). I was worried that our daughter might be concerned that we were getting back so late (she and her friend took a different excursion that day), but of course she didn't even notice! |
