Regarding ship's Tulum tours and shopping...

I thought I would post this since this is something I would have liked to have known before going to Tulum. The tour we took was with Carnival so I am not sure if they use a different touring company or not, but I am assuming a lot of ships use the company we used(cant remember the name) Anyway.. once you get in your buses to leave Playa De Carmen..if your bus stopped midway at a store for a restroom break and your guide tells you that this is the only place to shop/get souviners.. it is NOT true!!

I wasted over 50 bucks on cheaply/made over priced souviners thinking this would be my only chance..PLUS they didnt bargain! We stopped there for 20 minutes and it was very crowded. Then when we got to Tulum.. low and behold..there are shops set out there!! I thought "oh well.. we probably wont have time for those.." but once we saw the ruins and our guide ended his tour we had about an hour to explore on our own and caught the trolley back and got some wonderful souviners(at least ten times better than the other place) and the guy bargained with us so we got them for half of what we paid at the other site.

I wish I could remember the bus company and the site we stopped at.. but just wanted to let people know that if they are told there isnt food or shopping at hte Tulum site they are being told wrong.. we also got some cheap yummy food there before getting on our bus.

We just did this in September through Carnival. I don't recall our guide saying this would be the only place to purchase items. In fact on the bus on the way there he was trying to get orders for some cartuches(sp) and they would be made at one of the shops at Tulum while we were there.
