Hello,

As far as I am concerned, Christmas decorations should be in place for the first sunday of Advent, which this year falls on November 29. The beginning of Advent is when the preparation for Christmas really begins.

We were lucky enough to be on the QM2 in the Caribbean during early December 2005 and each day another tree had gone up somewhere, starting with the Grand Lobby.

Each tree was decorated differently and they were all spectacular!

Thank-you!

I'm sure that you will have a great time - Nineteen days onboard!

Terry and Loretta are at sea heading towards Southampton. The oceanweather forecast indicates that they might have a bit of rough weather. Then again, the QM2 is made for these conditions. When we sailed with Terry and Loretta in December 2005, we encountered a nasty storm on our first day out of New York. I think the QM2 was affected more by the high crosswinds than the rough seas. Great way to experience a real ocean liner!

Cheers!

Alan

P.S. I understand that you are from cider country - perhaps you could convince the hotel director to stock more brands of cider and perry on the QM2. Our choices of British cider and perry are very limited here in Canada - pity!

Yes looking forward to it now, Im sure they will both be fine, they have good sea legs, we will meet them as we board on the 11th and return with them both.

cider country, yes thats right, but we make and drink the real thing here, I dont think QM2 would be able to sell this stuff , if you ever this way , we can show the hidden places

It was reported above that they use professionals to decorate them, but wouldn't it be fun if they had one or two that they could have passengers decorate as an afternoon activity! Tea and cookies, holiday music, a cat climbing in the tree.

Smile does QM2 do anything special for Christmas? Santa for kids?

Does QM2 do anything special for Christmas? Santa for kids? I recall seeing something in the past, just wondering waht to expect, as my younger son (6 turning on 7 on the 26th of Dec) still believes. Just wondering what to expect...

Thanks in advance,

Frederic

Yes, Michael you are correct. It is not ship's crew who decorate. The team who were on board last year ran a decorating/floral business and were from Canada.

Arguably the case for regular churchgoers, but for most it is a feast of Mammon.

Default Christmas comes after Thanksgiving on ship

I have been on QM2 around Dec 10 cruise every year for 4 years. I have asked before, and they usually have the ship decorated within the weekend after Thanksgiving, end of Nov./early Dec. Sorry but "capnpugwash" was incorrect. I am not sure of the QV but QM2 is fully decked out by early December. If you like Christmas, do what we do & bring a small (18 in.) artificial tree that folds up narrowly & a string of lights. It will fit nicely on the desk & adds Christmas spirit when you are getting ready for the evening or watching TV in bed at night.

That said I would rather it came every 4 years along with leap year.

But Advent isn't Christmas. The Twelve Days of Chrsitmas starts on the 25th.

Technically and historically, purple is the color for Advent decorations along with greenery and silver or wood candle holders with purple or pink candles--brass and gold candle holders with red or green candles are for the actual Christmas celebration and is the reason that in days gone by Christmas trees were decorated on Christmas Eve in preparation for the actual Christmas celebration.

Advent is a liturgical season of reflection and prayer for some denominations (I am Episcoplaian). Advent's liturgical color is usually purple, the same as during Lent. Chrsitmas colors are white or gold. The church is not decorated until Christmas Eve other than greenery brought in about a week before Christmas.
