I guess I was being too subtle for you to see that yes I thought he was joking around.

On the thread someone posted about bringing a mini refrigerator, I treated it like a joke and everyone got mad at me .. I really thought it was a joke thread, and everyone was like oh this is a great question. It turned out he meant a much smaller mini fridge than I was picturing ... but now even if I think they are joking, Im afraid to say so

Actually the OP may have a valid point for their question if they have been reading any of the member reviews posted on Cruise Critic. I specifically noticed two different reviews that both mentioned the ship was worn down already. I thought that was pretty weird for such a new ship but neither person provided any example of why they had that opinion.

I love sailing the new ships, we did the Splendor last year about 4 months after it entered service (if I remember correctly when it set sail) and the Dream will be 3 months after beginning service. Both were booked well in advance of their first cruises. I totally enjoyed the Splendor and am looking forward to the Dream even more than the Splendor.

Thumbs up BOOKIN' THE Dream

Any time you need to get away on vacation is WORTH IT!

I booked the Dream waaaaaaay back in July. This past Saturday I noticed that the cost of my cruise went up $440.00.

My PVP told me months ago that it would probably do just that when the Dream started to sail. Glad I took his advice and booked.

This will be my third cruise (all Carnival) and I have always been very well pleased on all levels. The Triumph and Destiny were wonderful and not considered new kids anymore. I must say that I am looking forward to sailing the Dream more so than visiting the Western Caribbean ports she is going to visit!

I will enjoy counting down the days, visiting these boards, and dreaming about the Dream as the cold snow comes down on the great state of Pennsylvania!

Dream On Fellow Cruisers.....DREAM ON!!!

I thought it was a joke or a troll as well. Or at best, someone not well read on the cruise industry. Reading all the replies, you can definitely tell who has been cruising for a short while, and who has been cruising for decades.

"Old" and "worn out" are so very relative. When I started cruising in 1984 my first cruise was on the Carnivale. She was then over 30 years old (maybe 40) and around 20,000 tons (the Dream is 130,000 tons). But she was beautiful. Acres of teak decking, very intimate, you actually got to know the people you were sailing with as there weren't that many on board. The staff also got to know you since they didn't have 17 zillion rooms to clean or tables to wait on. It was definitely the golden age of cruising.

Now you have all these huge mega ships that are all shiny and "pretty". Bigger is better and ships are "old" and "worn out" at 5 years!!! You can sail with 3000-5000+ of your closest friends. The crews are [mostly] impersonal and to some degree, out right rude because they are so overworked.

Not saying that either is right or wrong, it is just amusing to read a post from someone that is worried about a brand new ship being "worn out". It's all relative to be sure.

Your pirate name is:

Captain Bess Rackham

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!

For some reason that date rings a bell with me... I can't quite place it. Wait, Wait - YES, I have a cruise on that date as well. As a matter of fact it's also on the Dream!!

If you want to jump into our roll call (or on a GOOGLE page I set up for this group) then follow the link in my signature next to the countdown for 12/3/09 !!!

I just got off the Dream on October 15, doing a 12 day Med cruise and there is nothing worn out or trashed about the Dream. The ship in very clean and beautiful, food was great as well as service. There wasn't anything about the ship that I did not like and would go back on it without any hesitation. Linda
