Post Beyond Expectations......

Our voyage on the QM2 was a dream come true, everything that was spoken on this board couldn't be more true. This was our first trip (the 5th anniversary around the British Isles) and we are over come with the Cunard bug. We absolutely loved every thing about her.

I am nearly 40 and did feel a little younger than the average crowd, but it just didn't matter, everyone at every age was engaging and happy to be on such a lovely voyage.

The wonderful welcomes in the port of calls were a sight to see.

Our stateroom was top notch in A2 and our housekeeping lady was superb. The ship handled the choppy waters like a hot knife through butter.

As for all the controversy when addressing the formal attire, it was as everyone had said. The dress code was extremely dressy and most ladies wore formal long length gowns on the formal evenings. Everyone looked stunning. In fact I would say that 99% of all guests dressed for the part and I observed that most men did have tux on.

My favourite rooms were the chart room before dinner with canapes and the Commodore club for a nice coffee or martini

The service was second to none, and our dinner service was spot on, with excellent food. In fact the night we went to the Italian, we wished we were back in the britannia restaurant

I will get around to writing a proper review, but I just wanted to share our feelings after our first trip on the QM2. We cannot wait to sail on her again. We are utterly hooked by her quiet elegance and relaxed atmosphere, we couldn't believe how there were over 2,500 guests, yet one felt that everything was so spacious with a non crowded feeling, infact many times when walking along corridors you were alone and didn't see many people at all...Perfect.

Can't wait for our next voyage.

Hi, how wonderful!
I'm so pleased that you had such a great time on QM2. Looks as though you are hooked now and that, just like so many of us, you have fallen under the spell of the most fabulous ship in the world.
This time next week we shall be aboard looking forward to our first dinner on our westbound crossing to be followed by two weeks round the Caribbean.
You'll have to try a crossing next - a westbound crossing with 25 hour days - more time to enjoy the ship!
The crossings - as opposed to cruises - are just a little more formal, a little more elegant, and the service (to me) seems to be racheted-up just that little bit more.
Once again, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your Cunard experience so much. Here's to many many more voyages.

Hi britnavygal, glad you enjoyed your 1st trip on QM2. Your explanation of your experience echoed how I felt after our 1st TA in September. I to was overjoyed at what QM2 had to offer, so much so that I wanted to book something as soon as we got back.

We are now looking forward to going on our med cruise next September.

BritNavyGal, I am glad you enjoyed the cruise. We were aboard as well. I loved the fireworks display at Greenock, and am always amazed at the nimbleness of the QM2, doing a 180 degree turn and backing into the dock at Liverpool was as amazing to me on the ship as I am sure it was to the throngs who lined the shore.

I hope you will make a habit of sailing on the Queen Mary 2. I have booked my next two, transatlantic eastbound on 21 May and returning westbound on 1st June. my 9th and 10th on Mary.

I had my tux on every formal night, including the evening departing Edinburgh where I wore my tartan pants and matching tie and cummerbund.

The food and service were as wonderful as ever, and we were well taken care of. Its an nice habit to get into.

Mike

Thanks for your comments. That's why some of us keep going back and back and back.

Hello Britnavygal,
Thankyou. It is so good to read these lovely comments with which we can all identify. I agree that you must try a transatlantic crossing too- we love that. We had our second one this year (both ways this time) and I was a bit concerned beforehand that it wouldn't be quite as good as I remembered from a couple of years earlier- needless to say we had a wonderful time and have already booked for next year- 22 nights .

I especially liked your comments re formal attire. Sometimes, when people enquire re evening wear, it is interpreted as 'this is what we like/ don't like ... so there' and then the disagreement begins.
It is good to hear personal observation just telling us how it was.
Thanks again.

Welcome, indeed. As others have posted on this board: with all the talk in the West of "sic transit gloria mundi," we here are all so very fortunate as to enjoy such a great ship in her prime and with a long service life ahead of her!

Absolutely wonderful to read such a glowing and positive report. Now you know why so many of us return to this glorious ship so often. Do try a TA for a different experience and perhaps the Queen Victoria which is very special too.

Thankyou, yes we are absolutely addicted, every little detail was taken care of, from our team at the table knowing exactly what we liked, we even had a table of 6 and there were five of us with a single on our table, then we met another single who joined us, they made the table of 6 into a table of 8 for us every night with our new friends at our request. The people on board were very friendly. Now we keep wanting canapes before dinner every night utterly spoilt

I was on the same trip. I was returning to U.K after being away for 30+ years. I will never forget the Liverpool Symphony concert on board including a mini "Last Night of the Proms" complete with Union Jacks.

The fireworks in Liverpool and Greenock along with the organ recital in Liverpool. These are events I believe only Cunard could pull off. I will be aboard the QV returning from Europe on Jan 4th. I will be hoping for a smooth ride. It will be a great comparison.
