Default Just booked my first cruise... Did we get a bad room?

There were only two balcony rooms left on the Crown Royal carribean cruise: Aloha 202 and Baja 705. We chose A202. Was this room one of the last picked for a reason?

Thanks.

Paul

Smile Welcome

Hello Paul and welcome to Cruise Critic and cruising!

Please confirm that you have booked the Crown Princess, Aloha Deck cabin 202. What date are you cruising?

When you mention "Royal Caribbean", that is a competing cruise line to Princess, so it adds a little confusion.

In my opinion, there is no such thing as a bad cabin on a cruise in the winter, just some are better than others;-)))

I see that A202 on the Crown is a balcony, great pick for a first cruise. It might be a little windy on your balcony as you are the most forward one on that deck, but you will have a great view and there will be a divider to block a lot of the wind while underway.

We prefer the more aft cabins, but that is more personal choice than anything else. You will be close to the pools and the buffet, that is a big plus!

Enjoy your first cruise.

Fair winds
Dave

I took it to mean he is cruising to the Caribbean, on the Crown Princess. Aloha and Baja are Princess deck names, as you know. RCI doesn`t use those terms.

OP Paul, enjoy your cruise!

Thank you, Dave and Langley. Yeah, I meant Crown Princess, not Crown Royal.

Why do you prefer aft cabins? I did see someone say that it's easier to get seasick in forward cabins.

Both the Aloha and Baja decks are good choices because they are in the middle sandwiched between other rooms and not public areas such as the theater or pool. Out of the two choices I would have selected the same room you did. I prefer being foward than Aft. There is less vibration forward . Did you book online directly with Princess? I have found when booking online that Princess doesn't seem to offer the best selection which for me would be midship. For my last cruise my travel agent was able to get me a midship location for the same price of a foward. In other words she booked me in a higher category for the same price. If you booked through Princess you may want to research an online TA or your local TA and tranfer the booking to them. They usually offer incentives like onboard credit or a discounted price.
To answer your question I don't think that there is anything wrong with your room. I have sailed foward in the past and had no problems other than a longer walk. The way I eat on a cruise it was probably a blessing.

It would seem the Crown is the ship, the Carribean is the destination and Crown Royal will be the drink of choice.

I would take B705 if you can switch. Either room will be fine, but the back of the ship is a better location in my opinion. Less wind on the balcony for sure and close to the buffet. Nice for running up there and bringing food to sit on your balcony and enjoy. A202 will be fine, just a bit windy up there.
