Okay so with all the information and all the reviews that I've read on here you would think that I would know by now of what cruise line and what ship to go on but nope nada not at all.. So please someone help me...
Let me tell you a little about myself first I'm a single male 26 turning 27 will be going on my first cruise and this is a birthday present to myself. I'm planning on going around mid to late February for my b-day. I may or may not be going with a couple of friends and if possible would like some recommendations on singles cruise company's. I am a chef so I enjoy great food as well as enjoying great food I also like to enjoy a good nightlife. I love water activities and would like to find a cruise around the age group of 20's- mid 30's. I know I'm getting quite specific and in turn probably will limit a lot of probabilities but if anyone could possibly help this would be wonderful

Based on your criteria I reckon you're more likely to find what you're looking for on a ship
. Boats are what you would get into if the ship got into bother and I doubt if you would find the food, nightlife and water activities to your liking .

Try the singles section on Cruise Critic and see a travel agent. They will help you decide what ship, cruise line and destinations.

I would recommend , in no particular order, Carnival,RCCL and NCL. Most of the other lines are more formal and/or cater to a much older demographic ( 60+).

I think for a first cruise that any ship would be FABULOUS.
but, determine your priorities - price, departure ports, night life, exciting ports, .... and narrow it down from there. I think you are likely to find singles on most any sailing. A man who cooks - you might not be single long!!! |

If food is your main concern you are not going to be happy on any mass market line. It's hard to feed 2500+ people 3+ meals per day & have it all come out amazing. None of the food is bad but it's not extraordinary.
If you want to party & have fun, I agree with the PP who said RCL, CCL, & NCL. You may also want to search for the on line TAs who book singles cruises. I'm not saying you will meet the love of your life but at least there will be more people on board who are not already coupled up.

Be cautious of some sailings in February -- there is President's week, winter break, etc. Some cruise lines (like Carnival) will have hundreds of children. This is fine if this is the type of vacation you are looking for.

I recommend boat #23. It's located on Starboard side aft, just above the Promenade Deck.

For your demographic, you'd do well on Carnival or Royal Caribbean. I prefer Royal Caribbean. Both are aimed at a younger crowd, as opposed to the over 55 executive looking for luxury over fun.
Carnival has more of a party atmosphere while Royal Caribbean is aimed at a more active passenger. (Hence the rock wall, skating, surfing pool, etc.)Both have very similar "FUN" events, such as the belly-flop contest and sexy legs/hairy chest contest. Traveling in February your best bet for good weather would be the southern Caribbean. You're very unlikely to get rain or cool weather in that region in February. And I concur with the warning about President's week. In the northeast, that's often a school break. When I'm doing a family cruise with my kids, that's the week I typically go. Prices will be a little higher and you'll find more young families (KIDS) on any of the ships aiming at a 25-35 crowd.

For a boat I don't think you can beat a 30' Sloop.
For a crusie ship, based on your criteria (but not knowing what weight you put on each item) I agree with those who suggest Royal Caribbean or Carnival. Food might be a touch better on HAL or Celebrity, but I think the singles action and nightlife would suffer to a larger degree than the food would be better. See a Travel agent who specializes in cruises and tell then what you are looking for and how important each aspect is. I'm certain they will find you something you will enjoy. |

Welcome Hornet, I too think that with all the activities on Royal Carribean that would be a good choice. We loved all the fun outdoor activties and the night life was pretty good. We have also been on Princess and enjoyed it a lot but it was a slightly older group but hey, we were all having a ball.
I am sorry that you haven't felt like anyone has been able to help you, it seems like there is some good info for you in the posts. Which ever you choose, with the right attitude you will find a great time on any of the lines. Have fun and I hope you have a great birthday. |

With respect to solo cruising, I'd check out these links http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=21 http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=419 and maybe talk to a travel agent. Other than that, I'd suggest Carnival or Royal Caribbean for a younger crowd. Look at the cruise line websites and see which ones have itineraries that look interesting. Download some brochures. I actually find the planning a lot of fun. And remember to enjoy your cruise on your sea-going vessel! |

My DH is a Chef. As far as the Mass Markets, we find the food best on HAL. Plus, they have cooking demos we have not found on the other ships. They have a Food & Wine Culinary Center.
Where do you want to go, Caribbean? Last edited by Jade13; November 11th, 2009 at 03:40 PM. |
