Default Independent tour from Aqaba to Dead Sea?

We are stopping in Aqaba for 1 day in January. RCL has a tour to the Dead Sea. However, I read some quite bad reviews on Tripadvisor about the hotel they use there.

So I would rather book with an independent tour operator to get us to the Dead Sea and maybe use a better hotel, like the Moevenpick which seems to be quite OK.

Besides, what air and water temperatures should we expect at the Dead Sea in early January? Will it be warm enough to swim or is such a tour a waste of money during the winter?

January is winter in Israel and Jorden. How ever the Dead Sea is a desert area and the best time to go there is during the winter. It hardly rain and on January the everage temprature are over 20c, on August it can easily get to 40c!!! Water are always warm. You are going on the best Time!!!
About hotels, I don't know about the hotels in the Jordenian side, but if you have an overnight you can concider doing the whole tour on the Israeli side.
