Receiving phone calls

Hi, I'll be going on the NCL Sky in the near future and had a question about receiving phone calls while on the ship. If someone from home wants to call my room, does anyone know how much it will cost them? Would it be any cheaper if they called me vs. me calling them? Thanks!

......NCL guests can also be contacted on our ships by calling 1.888.NCSHIPS (1.888.627.4477) from the USA. For the rest of the world please dial 1.732.335.3280. When guests are contacted with the ship via satellite, they can be reached directly, if they are in their stateroom. If not, a message about the incoming call will be delivered to their stateroom and then they can call back* the shore via satellite.

I don't know the cost but someone else here will likely post that. It could be as much as $25 per call.

*Calls from the ship can only use American Express, Master Card or Discover.

I think the cost used to be around $9.00 a minute.

Before they connect the call they will ask for the callers credit card number.

Hopefully, someone will give you up to date information. I've given you just a ball park figure.

Of course, if they call and you are not there, it will not do much good. Keep in mind, that other than sleeping, you are not in the cabin and nowhere to be found most of the time.

Cell phone calls with most carriers are $2.49 a minute. T-Mobile may still be the only rip off at $5 a minute. This is at sea. Prices in various countries will vary.

Best part - if someone calls you, they get YOU on the first try.

The last time I had to call shore - to - ship, was about $7.95 per minute. I am sure the price has gone up since then. This was before cell phone service was available.

Each cell phone plan is different but it can become expensive very quickly. I e-mail DS and since he has a blackberry we e-mail like we're texting since his plan covers unlimited data but texting and phone calls are expensive. I believe it's $2.49 a minute for him also.

Be aware that cell phone service can be spotty inside the ship. Works best out on deck - less interference from the metal hull.
