Default What is the whit fabric on the back?

What is the white fabric stretched across the back of the ship (between diving platforms)? It looks like it was just strung up there as an afterthought. I think it ruins the look of the rear of the ship. I do not remember seeing it before. I hope it is temporary whatever it is.

It's a "sail" to prevent wind from blowing into the AquaTheater during diving shows, which could be dangerous to divers in mid-air.

I noticed that too and wondered if this was going to obstruct the water view from the last inside (Boardwalk) balcony cabins???

I also noticed and was of the same opinion that it looked like an after thought. I remember Richard Fain mentioning on his blog they had to add additional sails as the original didn't provide enough protection.

I dont think it looks that bad. But it will definitely block the view of the water.

Take a look at the attached link which is from a recently discovered web page with several models of the Oasis from 2007.

Does not look like it was an afterthought.

I wonder if they need to keep it up all the time or just during the shows?

Thumbs up

I'm one if RCI's bggest fans, will cruise Indy out of Southampton and Oasis from FL thus year.

That said, whichever way you wanna dress it up, the sails look like tarp that hasn't been removed from the building work. They surely could have used the space for some corporate branding? Maybe a crown and anchor sillouette on each one??? Richard!!??

Add that to the lack of green balcony glass.......no framing of the balcony section as per the renderings......

I still love her.........we're just getting used to one another!

That cloth has to be up anytime the ship is sailing. Weather or not they take the time to take them down in port is not known. The cloth isn't just for reducing wind for divers but is also for protecting all the water and lighting features from the sea water that gets blown. That is why they had it up while pulling into Port Everglades even though there was no show going on.

The sails are actually very pretty when you are sitting in the aqua theater and have a transparent effect when looking through them during the day. You can see the sea and sky through them. They do have a system of pulleys for raising and lowering and yes, they are used to help control the wind factor during the fountain shows and "Oasis of Dreams".

That's great, however doesn't really address the issue raised on the thread regarding the look and feel of the rear of the ship.....it still looks unfinished...?
