Default Cell Phones?

This may be a silly question, but if you don't know, I guess it is okay to ask....
We are going to Alaska in May (First cruise...yipppeeee!). Will I be able to use my cell phone on the ship or just in port? thanks

Probably both. The ship has an at sea cell system that may cost you about $3.00 per minute (or more depending on your carrier). On land, check with your carrier's website to see what coverage they have in Alaska and if it included in your plan.

Texting will be less but still not free by any means, be SURE you understand all the rules regarding your plan and the ships service. Often you are charged for incoming calls and messages even if you don't answer them, if your phone actually receives them.

Many people have received very rude surprise when they get there phone bill the next month after a cruise.

I believe texting is .50 cents for incoming and outgoing texts. We have AT&T. The cell charges are $2.95 per minute on the ship.

In order to send a text message, you still must access the ship's signal. They charge for that signal. AT&T is not aware of what the cruise line will charge you for using their signal. Some people have returned home only to learn that they have an astronomical bill.

50 cents to send, 5 cents to receive. Verizon.
