Default What's open New Year's Day

Our family is going to be in port on New Year's Day. Does anybody know if shops and restaurants will be, for the most part, open or closed? I was thinking of staying onboard if nothing was going on ashore...It might be a rough night at sea on NYE....

In Cozumel every restaurant and shops open when cruiseships are in port, our days off are sundays or some days when no ship is at the island

I tried to book a private snorkeling tour for New Year's Day and the operator, Mystic, told me she was not operating that day because so many locals completely take the day off. I know she's a smaller operator, but I am anticipating the holiday may affect some things we might want to do.
On the other hand, I think there are six ships in port that day, so there will be plenty of money to be made! I usually like to have something set up ahead of time, but I think we're going to just wing it. As you say, after NYE, I'm not sure we're gonna feel much like rolling off the ship too early!

Have a great cruise and see you in Coz!

Cindy

Actually I don't think the locals would want to miss out on a day when there are ANY ships in port so the tour operators and the restaurants will msot likey all be open because its the high season for them. I have some friends that were there last year for Christmas Day and said that everything was open, so I am sure they will be open and operating as usual.

I've been in Cozumel for Christmas and New Years. While yes things will be open. It won't be business as usual everywhere. Some will open later, some may not open. If there is something specific you wish to do, I would try to make contact and check on the status for Jan 1. Many dive shops and or snorkel tours may have a later or more limited schedule that day. Don't expect to see a ghost town of closed businesses. But also don't expect every last one to be open. I'd guess 80+% of things will be open. Some of the folks working may be a little slow that day.

Have fun

Rich
