All cruise lines want to get you off the ship asap, however, there are only a certain amount of customs officials and that's where the hold ups are.

You are dressed and ready to go early so why prolong the agony....get off the ship and enjoy your day in Florida.

Well, my "immediate group" includes 5 kids under 10 years old (My DH & I + our 3 kids and my brother and his 2 kids). We will have all our luggage and the hotel check in is only at 3pm...

Based on what my friend experienced on RCCL, I would not want to stand around for over an hour, in line with 5 kids, JUST trying to get off the ship - then you still have to wait for customs... I'd rather have a nice breakfast and wander off the ship leisurely after the worst of the line-ups have dissipated.

agree with that but you won't be able to hang around till you check in your hotel. You can go earlier and they will hold your luggage till check in time.

Julie
As long as it's warm (and it usually is in FLL) I would put bathing suits under everyone's clothing. If you can get the kids to sit on loungers and play games or maybe go the the kid's playroom you can probably stay there until you have to get off the ship. Then when you go to your hotel you can store your luggage with the concierge if the rooms aren't ready and swim in their pool.

Disembarkation is one reason I've come to prefer smaller ships. They are just more civilized. So far, Seabourn has had the best; everything goes better with champagne. But many times, different ships (even those from the same line) vary greatly from others of the same size. I just can't figure why sometimes its great and other times everything is delayed, you can't get any assistance or whatever.

Breasts notwithstanding, I don't thing I will even try one of the megaships!

I have ones that went smoothly and on time and ones that took for ever. Sometimes a problem with the customs/emigration people but the last one was because of a problem with the ramp. At least Princess has you in a lounge now. Sitting around the atrium for two hours on our second large ship cruise was awful.
