Default Crown Princess - cabin bad smell

Just back from the Crown Princess. Surprised that no-one has mentioned this so far. We were in C627 and were plagued by a gross smell of cooking in our cabin and the corridor outside. Passenger services advised that it was due to a 'bell box' (way of getting food from galley to dining rooms) & that nothing could be done about it. We had to leave our balcony door open to clear the smell. The problem was made worse when a couple of crew-only doors were left open. Our steward managed to get an ioniser for the room which did help. Unfortunately my husband has a sensitive nose and he felt nauseous in the room until we got the ioniser. We checked on Baja & Aloha decks but the problem was not apparent there. Similarly further forward of aft on Caribe was OK. This seems to be a very localised problem. It was like living on top of McDonalds! Be aware if you have a keen sense of smell. The problem affectrs C627 and the few cabins close by.

(Other than that a great ship & trip!)

We were in C429, no problem with bad smells there. A great trip though.

My wife sometimes complains about bad smells in the cabin. I gently remind her that she did say, "For better or worse."

Welcome to worse.

I wonder if maybe this might not be sensitivity to smells? We have friends that will not sail on the Sun Class ships because of the open Pizza restaurant located mid ship. She says she can smell the food even in her stateroom and it makes her sick.

Sensitvity to smells might be the problem.

Not wishing to hi-jack the thread, I am very sensitive to some of the strong perfumes and colognes worn, and may break into sneezing/sniffling spells in enclosed spaces like elevators.

We were in B748, an aft cabin, and did get smells a couple of times. It was chicken when we arrived in the cabin. I was a bit apprehensive at first but it didn`t bother me after that.

Crown is great, and so was that cabin.

Well, I certainly hope you cover your mouth and nose while sneezing.

Yes - this was very localised. Probably only affects these rooms on Caribe (Starboard side) - C631, 629, 627, 623, 625, 621, 619.

My husband does have a very sensitive nose. I don't, but I found it unpleasant also.

It may also affect the cabins on Dolphin deck as well. We were on the Crown in September. When we would be walking down the hall to dinner on the way to the aft elevators you could smell it quite strongly in the hall. Someone told us it came from the crew kitchen. I'm glad we were not in a cabin near that.

Good point! We checked Baja & Aloha but not Dolphin.
