Default Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in PV

My DH and I will be sailing on the Sapphire Princess the week of Dec.12th. We have been on this cruise a few times and we're not planning on too many excursions. We would like to get off the ship and take a taxi to Our Lady of Guadalupe church in Puerto Vallarta. Can anyone tell me approximately how many miles it is from the port to the church? Thanks for your help with this.

It is on the other side of the harbor or whatever it is defined as. Definetly not walking distance.

Yep, not too far. BTW, they request that you dress modestly with knees and shoulders covered. There's a sign by the front door. They still might let you in if you're in shorts or wearing a tank top, but they do prefer people to be more covered.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is two short blocks up from the Malecon. If you're familiar with Puerto Vallarta, it's near the downtown plaza with the Gazebo and dolphin fountain. It's too far to walk from the ship...just take any of the taxis into downtown. Most of the taxis drop people off at Diamonds International, which is at the other end of the Malecon from the Church. You could either walk along the Malecon waterfront to the Church, or asked to be dropped off right there. It's a beautiful Church. Well worth a visit.
Here are some photos I took of the Church:

It's easy to catch a bus there too. The bus stop is on the main road, across from the WalMart shopping center (closer to the intersection of the road leading to/from the port). It's about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop, and then about a 10 minute walk from the Malecon, where the bus will drop you off. Bus fare is about US$1, and they'll take US currency (can't remember if we got change back or not, but if we did, I'm sure it was in pesos).

Default Church

The Church is 3 miles from the cruise terminal and definetly not walking distance. One of the hidden jewels of PV is the Rio Cuale that is a little further south along the Malecon. It is filled with many local shops and artisans and is more reasonably priced than the Malecon shops. Also there are some very nice restuarants and bars that serve great food and drinks along the river. When you walk along the river look in the trees and shrubs and you will almost certainly see iguanas.

We always take the bus. Walk to the main street and turn left to the bus stops. Look for the blue bus. It will have, in white paint on the windshild, the word malecon. Just hop on and give the driver $1.00 for two people. He may give you a receipt. Then just sit, or stand and enjoy the ride to the plaza. For the return trip, catch the bus that goes to Wal Mart. It will be on the windshild. Pay another $1.00 for the return trip.

This is very easy to do. You do not need to speak Spanish. Enjoy the ride and the view along the way.

Thanks everyone for the great information. We are really looking forward to visiting this church. I just got my last pumpkin pie in the oven. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
