I have to agree that NCL's onboard theater, etc. was pretty horrid (a personal opinion, of course). We didn't pay attention to the tv offerings. We found that the night time entertainment was fairly limited, partly (we guessed) because most passengers are generally busy and off the ship all day, every day.
I'm sorry to hear that PoA's onboard experience was so lacking. That is such a shame. We had fine service on Pride of Hawaii. We found the crew to be very good, even though they were also US-based. The crew members were respectful and hard working (with a few exceptions), but somewhat more relaxed in attitude and presentation than the international crews, which tend to be somewhat too "servant" like in some cases for our tastes. The NCLA officers were as professional as those on other cruises.
One thing I do have a quibble with is the notion that PoA is "old." The ship has been in service for 4-1/2 years and went into service new (not as a retrofit like Pride of Aloha was). That is not old by any means, especially not in the lifespan of a large cruise ship, which is an enormous investment intended to last for many, many years.
