Default Upgrades?

We are sailing on the Dec 7 Elation to Mexico and considering an upgrade. Although we used an agent to book, I've heard an upgrade is possible directly with Carnival. The cruise appears to still be not filled yet.

It seems that some have successfully received upgrades at reduced or no cost.

Anyone know of how to verify this?

Since you have booked through an agent - call that person directly to find out the possibilities.

We got one "upgrade" within the balcony cabin category 8A to 8H. After that "upgrade" we have always booked a specific cabin rather than let them choose on our behalf.

Unless you have booked Early Saver, don't count on a "free" upgrade. Those are gone and have been for about a year or so now.

Carnival normally won't deal with you if you have booked using a TA, so call your TA and see what they might be able to do for you.

things have changed with carnival... they will NOT deal with you AT ALL if you booked using a TA... they were wiling to risk loosing my reservation over a credit card issue (spent a lot of $$ that day, the bank declined it because they couldn't contact me to confirm i did in fact buy a cruise and several other large purchases) and carnival would only tell me up until the day i had to get a hold of my TA before it was cancelled... i said if it got cancelled id be booking on NCL and they didtn care... its bc of the agreement they have with the TA's... from when i called a few weeks ago about something they can't pull up your res... only the TA can. fortuntaly i got a hold of my TA (labor day weekend... everyone goes down the shore and fogets about work) and was able to fix the payment issue... a few weeks ago she was able to get me an incredible upgrade to a suite for a better than decent price, so alls well that ends well... but calls your TA... s/he may be able to get you a better price than on carnivals site (i paid a lot less than the going rate on the cll site for my suite).
