Good morning, all...
Need help from the cruise experts on this board. :0) Three months ago I booked an April Fascination cruise. I got Riviera/Upper mixed up in my head, so now I am booked on the Riviera deck which is the lowest deck - which is not really what I wanted. I went on the Carnival site to see what I could do...but check this out...the price of the cruise has gone way up...the cabin that I paid $1500 for (for the three of us) is now going for over $2000. It says balcony not available...so the next thing is the top level, which is an additional $1000. Is there anything I can do? Or did I just mess myself up? I know we won't be spending much time in the cabin, but seeing my husband's eyes when I told him we were at the bottom level....that breaks my heart....I can tell he wanted something higher... Thanks! Rachel Fantasy 12/00 Imagination 6/01 Splendor 6/03 Sovereign 12/04 Grandeur 4/06 |

First of all, Fantasy class ships do not have balcony cabins, other than the Cat. 11 and Cat. 12 suites. That's why you see no balconies available. But during drydock, they will add the aft balconies. It could be if you call Carnival, you could find out if they have the new deck plans and cabins. Of course, there will not be a lot of them, and they may already be booked.
There is nothing wrong with Riviera Deck. All cabins will be the same size regardless of location...I assume you have an OV. You will not be spending that much time in your cabin, and this is a short cruise. Enjoy what you have, and spend the upgrade money elsewhere. EM

I would stick with what you have and next time use the difference to book something special. I wouldnt pay the increased prices.
Now watch the prices, sometimes around final payment time they will drop and if they come back down be prepared to jump. The difference is how much elevator time, the cabin will be the same. I know it feels like a caste system if you have to stay on the elevator all the way down ... lol. But really it shouldnt make the cabin any different.

If you were just thinking a higher deck but still the same type of cabin then you are worrying for nothing. Like others said the cabin will be exactly yhe same with the difference of being on the elevator another 20 seconds lol. Also tell your husband this... should you experience any rough weather the best place to be is lower on the ship as it doesn't move as much.

I have been on decks that are near the top of a ship and those near the bottom, and ironically enough I will be sailing on the Fasnication on the Rivera deck in a few days. In general comparing the same type of cabins (i.e. standard size, ocean vieiw), there is no difference between cabins no matter the deck. For some reason people think a "higher" cabin is better, so cruiselines charge more.
Having said that there is an exception where a higher cabin is worse than a lower cabin. I learned a while ago to see what is directly above your cabin. If it is a show room or the buffet you might not want to book it due to noise, etc. |

I actually prefer Riviera- you can see the water! I loved sitting by the window watching the water and looking for dolphins and whales. As far as a caste system- if anyone is going to be worried about whether or not I push Riviera vs Empress or whatever on the elevator- they need to get a life!

Thank you so much for your help. I think the "less motion" thing is ideal...and you're right, we're not under any of the public areas, so hopefully it will be quiet and we won't be near a bunch of people who like to stay up all night and holler. I'll share this with my husband. Thanks!
