Thumbs down Floors same as decks?

I'm researching where to book our room, and am wondering if a floor is the same as a deck. We are on the 5th floor in room 7080. Are we on the 7th deck?

It would probably help if you say which ship, but yes, in ship talk a floor is a deck. There are generally a couple of decks below the first passenger deck (for the infirmary and the crew quarters).

Yes, floor and deck mean the same thing.

Normally, 7080 would be on deck/floor 7.

Welcome to cruisecritic!
Where did you get the 5th floor? On ships the 1st number of your cabin is the floor its on.
So 7080 would be on deck 7, the cabin 9292 is on deck 9. In ship's catalog all the floors are decks.

Probably got 5th by counting the passenger decks on the ship illustration. They generally do not illustrate the crew decks.

Anyway, welcome aboard Razorbacks!!! Oh and the smiley you used was a thumbs dowm, indicating displeasure. Many mistake it for a question mark!!

Floors are Decks
Ceilings are Overheads
Walls are Bulkheads
Hallways are Passage Ways
Bathrooms are Heads
Dining Room is Mess Hall
Kitchen is Galley

Forward is the Front of the Ship
Aft is the Back of the Ship
Midships is the middle of the ship (Forward to Aft)
Starboard is on the Right when facing Forward
Port is on the Left when facing Forward

Windward is the side of the ship (or island) the wind is blowing in from
Leeward is the opposite side of Windward

Ship Time is the time your watch better be set to when you are wondering around in a Foreign Land in a different Time Zone
All Aboard is the time you better be back on the boat before it sails

That should get you started. Enjoy your cruise!

You forgot:
the front of the ship is also the bow (rymes with ow)
the back of the ship is also the stern.
Forward and aft are the directions you're going, towards the bow or stern.
( I own boats and started using them in the 50's when I was about 8!)

Yes, Forward and Aft are directions, thank you for clarifying! I use just Foward End and Aft End or Far Forward or Far Aft out of lazy bad habbit! Thanks!

Generally speaking, that's true. But, not always. We had cabin #0065 on a cruise and it was on the 8th deck (of the deck plans). And, we were once in S002, which was on the 10th deck.

And a room is the same as a cabin or stateroom.
