I'm researching where to book our room, and am wondering if a floor is the same as a deck. We are on the 5th floor in room 7080. Are we on the 7th deck?

It would probably help if you say which ship, but yes, in ship talk a floor is a deck. There are generally a couple of decks below the first passenger deck (for the infirmary and the crew quarters).

Yes, floor and deck mean the same thing.
Normally, 7080 would be on deck/floor 7.

Welcome to cruisecritic!
Where did you get the 5th floor? On ships the 1st number of your cabin is the floor its on. So 7080 would be on deck 7, the cabin 9292 is on deck 9. In ship's catalog all the floors are decks.

You forgot:
the front of the ship is also the bow (rymes with ow) the back of the ship is also the stern. Forward and aft are the directions you're going, towards the bow or stern. ( I own boats and started using them in the 50's when I was about 8!)

Generally speaking, that's true. But, not always. We had cabin #0065 on a cruise and it was on the 8th deck (of the deck plans). And, we were once in S002, which was on the 10th deck.
