Default Cabin questions..For anyone who's sailed the Destiny

Thinking about booking the Destiny for January. The ship is a little older than Carnival ships I've sailed recently.

Are the bathrooms in standard OV or Balcony cabins smaller than on newer Spirit or Conquest class ships? They seemed smaller based on the few photos I've seen posted. Anyone have photos?

How does the OV cabin size on the Destiny compare to Spirit or Conquest class OV's--bigger, smaller, or the same? Anyone have photos?

What was your overall impression of the condition of the cabins?

Thanks.

I've sailed Destiny twice.

First time we had a balcony and did the Southern route......loved it!

Second time, we had a cabin with two portholes and did the HMC route. Didn't love it so much.

The ship is older, but over all still pretty nice.

The problem was our cabin. First, I really missed the balcony, but that was my problem for picking the cabin. The cabin itself....the safe didn't work, the light over the bed fell off, the switchplate to the bathroom light fell off....those are a few of things that "went wrong". Oh....and the toilet wouldn't flush one day.

I don't think the bathroom was any smaller though. Seemed the same to me, as far as size.

I'd still sail her though, if she were going to ports I really wanted to go to.

Thanks for info!

BTW, I looked at your photos on webshots. Did those porthole windows open?

No, they don't open.

But the thing I really liked about them was when the cover is closed on them, it is pitch dark in there....really nice for sleeping!

the cabin proportions are effectively the same as for the 'triumph' / conquest / splendor / dream class ships... in fact, destiny set the mold they were built from...

bathrooms are about the same size. and destiny's shower actually seemed a little larger than that of the spirit class...

OV cabins vs 'triumph' / conquest / splendor / dream class are pretty much identical... OV cabins on these classes are 220 sq ft, vs 185 sq ft on spirit class ships (similar to fantasy class OV cabin size)

i had absolutely no problem with the cabins on destiny... and i visited a few others of all different classes... all were exactly what i'd expect, with no notable deficiencies.

no need to worry

We had an OV cabin on Destiny, while we have had 2 balconies on the Legend. The cabin was actually a little larger on Destiny probably because they don't "steal" the room for the balcony. The bathrooms might have been a BIT smaller, but not much. I liked that the shower was quite a bit larger on Destiny, however the vanity is much smaller with no shelves (like the Legend had). The ship is in fine shape...she was in drydock last year and they replaced alot of tile, carpet, etc.

But my favorite is still spirit class

We sailed her 01/09 in a balcony on the Spa deck...was very noisy as people were constantly running in/out from the pool area!!!

Default Spa Cabin

We just got back from on the Destiny. We have previously been on the Spirit in both a Standard Balcony and a Cat 11 Suite. The Destiny Spa cabin was great. Bathroom was a decent size, shower was actually quite large....Balcony was nice although not large, could easily accomodate 3 adults, the two chairs and one table. Note I was in cabin 1005. I would try to select a cabin there or forward of that. The deck 11 railing is open immediately above cabins any more aft of that cabin and as such you could have people essentially looking straight down at your balcony (not roof enclosure). Starting at 1005 forward there is a glasswall on Deck 11 above and affords more privacy. Another suggestion would be to book a Spa cabin on the port side. Above those cabins is only the kiddie pool which is of course closed at night. Above our cabin was an open deck outside of Club O2 (teens), and on one evening teens were running back and forth above our heads until about midnight.....otherwise very quite. The other advantage to the Spa cabin is that there are only 8 cabins in each hallway and subsequently traffic is negligible. I would not be concerned about Camp Carnival being near the Port side cabins as it is as quiet as a mouse after 10PM.

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this. While the vanity area was a lot smaller in the bathroom, the shower was HUGE - almost twice the size of what we've been used to in the past.
