Default Formal dinner night questions..

We ( me,wife and 5 yr old girl ) would be cruising first time this friday on Paradise ( weekend cruise to Mexico ).

1) When is formal dinner night?
2) Can I wear a casual sketchers shoe ? or does it have to be black/brown leather shoe? we cant to pack light and dont want to carry anything which is needed for just once.

3) what should wifes dress be?

4) what about the 5 yr old girl ?

Thanks

Basically nice and neat (no t-shirts or shorts on Elegant nights) There are some who might suggest that you dress up, but what I call church clothes are fine.
Here is what carnival says:
Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs).
Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men and baseball hats.
Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too! Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats.

We've done the 3/4 day cruises on the Paradise many times. Your Cruise Elegant night will be Saturday night.

For Cruise Elegant night think nice church or wedding wear. DH will wear a nice Hawaiian Shirt (like a Tommy Bahama or guayabera), Dockers and his one pair of brown leather shoes. I will wear black slacks and a pretty top. Your daughter can wear a pretty dress or a pretty top and pants.

You will see guys dressed like my DH and in varying combos of Shirt, Tie, Jacket. Gals wear everything from black slacks to ball gowns.
No one is going to kick you out of the MDR for wearing clean solid color Skechers. -- In college the guys would buy black slipon Vans for formals and none of us girls cared. I think we were all a bit envious of them.

DH's packing list is- 2 pr dockers, 3-4 Hawaiian shirts, 1 pair brown leather shoes and his necessities.

Remember to store your luggage under the bed.

There is no "formal" night on any Carnival cruise. There is "cruise casual" and "cruise elegant". "Cruise elegant" being a somewhat toned down/loosened up version of a "formal" night.

Just a name change by Carnival.
Basically the same thing, just not quite as "formal"

Just dress nicely. No t-shirts or flip flops. A nice polo and a nice, not raggedy pair of Levis seems to be alright these days. I did wear a coat and tie and I saw some in tuxes, but many were in nice button up shirts, dockers and nice shoes. My wife did not bring a formal dress. She dressed in her normal business attire and was just fine.

Here is what a group of people decided to wear on the 2nd Cruise Elegant light on a recent Spirit cruise. These people were fun. They also wore '50s outfits one night and hillbilly outfits on another.
