Default Carnival Victory passports?

As a first-time cruiser in the Caribbean, I still do not understand the passport rules. Do you just show your passport when you enter the ship and that's the end of it? Or do you have to show your passport as you get off the ship at each port? Sorry for being so dumb about this.
I am looking at cruising on the Carnival Victory out of San Juan.

Once you have boarded the ship you will no longer need to show your passport. When you debark for your ports you will need a picture ID (ie license) and your sail and sign card (it is your room key, your charge card and ID for the ship) Enjoy.

Well, if you re-enter a US port afterr having visited a non-US port, you could have to show your Passport to Customs while actually on the ship, but that is not part of the current Victory itenerary so you should be fine.

You do not need a passport once on ship. Just Photo ID and Ship card. If you are just walking around(no getting in water) you can take it and get it stamped at some ports.

Could you clarify? "No getting in water"? And where do you get it stamped at? That would be neat! I know my parents were disappointed when we took them on their 1st cruise last year and they didn't get their passports stamped, lol.

I believe the poster meant NOT to take your passports into the water, pool at the ports. I understand IF you go and drop your passports off at the Pursers desk they will stamp them for you.

Some, if not all, ports will ask that you have a picture ID in addition to your S&S card. Some people use their passport for this purpose.

As for getting your passport stamped, it depends on which ports you're going to. There are usually places that will do this either in or near the port's terminal.

Ok, I may be missing something here, but I thought one reason for using your passport on a cruise (in lieu of just a birth certificate) was in case you get left behind in port. If that happens and your passport is locked up in your safe in your stateroom, then what?

Some cruisers do not feel it is necessary to carry their passport with them into port. That is their choice; they know the consequences, should the unthinkable occur. Many carry a copy of their passport in the hopes it would help them obtain a replacement passport.

We are of the opposite school of thought. If we are outside the U.S., we carry our passports. No exceptions.

We make sure there is always a safe place for our passports if we are doing a water activity, be it in a locker or in a waterproof pouch.

You have to make the choice for yourself.

OK, may sound dumb, but I have to ask...We are sailing on Victory in June and we have the Passport Cards, does anyone know if we need actual passports to fly? From what I've found online, it appears that we do not since we are flying to a US Territory, but others that I'm traveling with are still leary.

You do not need a passport to fly into Puerto Rico or any other US territory such as the US Virgin Islands. It's just like flying in the US where you need a gov issued id. Passport Cards are pretty useless except as an ID, unless you're driving between the US and Mexico and Canada.

We have passports but we do not carry them in port. What is more important is the fact we actually have them and getting them replaced is easier than never having them at all.

Also, the "stamps" you get aren't the same as the ones you would get upon flying into a foreign country. They're a souvenir, not an official immigration stamp.
