No, all you need is the passport, your funpass, and a credit card.
Have fun, smooth sailing

Why would you say that? It is absolutely true. Obama never did produce an official birth certificate. Only a certificate of live birth from the hospital. They will not accept that for a cruise. So maybe you can explain why you think that poster is stupid.

Orly, is that you?

None of the "birther" suits have gone anywhere because the the State of Hawaii certified that the President was born in Honolulu in 1961. Judges from from both sides of the aisle dismissed every single suit filed by Taitz and Berg and their colleagues as being totally devoid of merit.

Andy Martin must be laughing his you-know-what off that people actually believe the garbage he makes up.

No, you are mistaken. He produced a short form birth certificate from the State of Hawaii, which was certified by the Hawaiian authorities.

What you say is true, but AGAIN, OBABMA NEVER produced a certified birth certificate. As he would have to do to get on a cruise.

(maybe he was too busy to bother requesting one)

I'm sure that at some point in his life he produced one to get a passport, as he clearly has travelled out of the country more than once in his lifetime....

Nope, leave the BC home. That's what is so nice about a passport.

Default Well, the good news is...

No news from our OP means they made it onto the ship. Now here's hoping they make it back OFF of the ship without any issues!

I for one would be happy to be stuck on the ship, just not in the terminal.

FYI... voter registration card is NOT considered proof of citizenship.... the state where I live did not require proof of citizenship before I was registered to vote... if my citizenship could not be verified, it would not have been valid for voting, but it would still be in my possession.

I don't think he's too worried about it as he has a US passport.

That would be my concern. Getting on the ship may be easy, but it may be a bit of a problem getting back into the U.S. without proper documentation!

What are they going to do? Deport him to Cuba? If his wife is there and can vouch for him and he has some semblence of proper identification, they'll hassle him but they certainly won't stop him from getting home eventually.

You can check it out on our state website.

Judy- thanks, that is interesting to know! The things you learn on cruise critic. Now only if all states did the same!

Actually very true. A highly stubborn co-worker did not bring his passport with him on a visit to one of our sites in Mexico--they hassled him...I think his name is on a "list" of some sort now...but the let him back in.

Although, I have always wanted to visit Cuba....

when my daughter needed a passport, at age 13 or 14, she had a valid birth certificate, but no photo ID. I had to swear in an affidavit that I knew her for at least a year and that she was the person she claimed to be.

I suspect something similar might happen if the ID you've got when coming back into this country isn't sufficient, that someone with appropriate ID can swear that you are who you claim to be.

Now we're wondering what kind of hassle we may run into this time. He's bringing the birth certificate, his voter i.d. card, military DD-214 papers, driver's license, plus another photo i.d. Does anyone think we will have big problems getting on board? We sailed on Carnival both times before, but I guess times have changed in terms of security. This will be such a bummer if he can't get on board. (By the way, we don't have passports.)

thanks, Mary
You were told on a previous cruise that you did not have "proper identification" . You then ignored that warning and did not get proper identification; i.e.; a passport.

If you are denied boarding, you only have yourself to blame. Don't come back to us and claim that you were done wrong.

I may be opening a can of worms here, but some of you posters are awfully grumpy....clearly since she is not back they were both allowed to board and are happily cruising at this time. In hindsight im sure there were things she and her husband wished they had done differently...instead of telling her how she should have done it, answer her questions constructively and try to help her with what will matter at this time, not what she should have done.

OP hope you guys had a great cruise!

Well, with all due respect, I think the OP should have been told how she should have done things. They had to sign a paper 8 years ago for not being in compliance, but that was just a "non issue" to them.

And if they were allowed to board this time, what does that say? To me it says you do not have to follow the rules/laws. So, they are a waste of my time. And I HATE anything that is a waste of my time, but means NOTHING.

My next cruise is in Jan. I am showing up with my luggage and a credit card, a close friend and a smile. I will let you know how it goes.

I personally know a woman that was allowed to board with NOTHING as she had left her purse at home several hours away. Her friend had to sign a paper, and that was that. Allowed to board.
