I sure hope you never happen to have a heart attack at sea, because I sure would hate to inconvenience the other 3000 people so you could get emergency treatment and live!! |

Frankly I dont believe the heart attack story, this is all wild speculation since no one at CCL has confirmed this.
I would not be surprised if the Captain was simply drunk, hit the other ship, and thats why CCL called him "very ill" and flew in another captain. Remember a cruise line is a business and will never tell the whole story to its passengers. |

Did you see the commercial where the guy says "what's this button" and blows the horn. The captain says "GET OUT" That commercial was so funny! I also loved the towel animal theater

There is no way in hell they would turn around a ship and go six hours out of the way just to get a captain off the ship if it wasn't an emergency. Remember that Carnival had to reschedule all transportation (booked thru Carnival) on a holiday weekend. We may never know the full story but i highly doubt it was a drunken incident in PV.

When Captains are relieving one another, the new one comes on one week before the old one leaves, so it does not surprise me that they had 2 Captains on this ship since one was going to be going home for the holidays. They do the same thing with the Cruise Directors, the new one comes on the last week of the one that is leaving, why they do this I will never know, but this what they do.

We were on the Splendor. We had a few issues during the week.
We sailed late on November 22 because of a medical emergency on the cruise coming in. It was an awful fiasco at the pier even with our VIP status. It seems the luggage was severely backed up. We finally got on. The lifeboat drill was delayed until Monday morning. On Wednesday when we were docking at PV we bumped into a RCI ship. Cosmetic damage. We didn't even feel it. After we left Cabo on Friday I heard after dinner that we had returned because the Captain became seriously ill. We were already on our way back home and had no idea we had even turned around. On Saturday the new Captain talked to us. He said that his vacation was cut short to take over the ship. He told us that he has 37 years experience and was on the inagural cruise for the Splendor. He was very sad when he told us that his good friend, the first Captain, had taken ill. He did not say what his illness was but he did say that he would be off for a long time. He estimated our return at noon or so on Sunday. Saturday evening and night the seas were very rough. He had to slow the ship way down. He etimated our new arrival time at 3:00 PM. When we woke on Sunday we were not rushed at all to leave our cabins. We received our newsletter called, "A relaxing morning at sea". The casino and shops opened. Breakfast and lunch were served. Finally we entered the harbor and we made our way to the VIP lounge. Departure was easy but we felt sorry for the new 3300 passengers waiting to get on. By the way, we loved the cruise though the casino was a little tighter than the other ships. |
