It has been well documented around here that what you're claiming is so wrong is in fact correct. I can speak for it myself as my last cruise was a month ago, and I did indeed have a drink at the "farewell" party.

I was just trying to fit in on the boards, as the majority of the posters seem to be nasty... J/K

My apologies for the post - I was having a VERY bad/sad night and one of the comments just put me over the edge.

This morning I'm clear headed and embarrased by my comments, please accept my apologies WilliamK99.

As for the past guest party it was for 45mins.( before dinner again )offering ONLY red, white & rose wine & 8oz. glasses of bad tasting (strong) beer (you couldn't order a particular brand).
The farewell party on the last night was a one time thing from 5-6pm offering all those free drinks that we're used to & it took place in the big karaoke lounge. At least that's the way it was for us. We'll compare the parties to our upcoming Valor cruise . Have a good one . J & B
On the Valor on the 10/25 sailing we were fortunate to have quite a selection of drinks at the past guest party (beer, red/white wine, lime daquiris, whisky sours, rum punch, champagne, and probably a few others) same went for the Farewell party.

We had excellent and fast service and had several drinks each...probably 4 or 5 (or 6...) each. They are pretty small drinks but we enjoyed both parties and the free drinks quite a bit.

It is a horrible deal. A dollar off a drink that is $2-$3 over priced is no bargain. They did the change to save money. They knew that on the last night, everyone is busy packing up and that by having it on the last night, much less people would show than if they were to have it on first elegant night.
Proof? The past captain parties with free alchohol would take place in several lounges (including the disco, which would be packed). If they can be held in one room only (like karioke lounge) that's proof that it works in saving money.

I actually really liked the new format of the Captain's party. There were a lot of people on the promenade deck and a band playing, lots of people dancing; it was a lot more fun....we met a bunch more people than if it had been held in the main lounge.

Just got off the Conquest yesterday. I love the new farewell party. It was an hour in the Degas lounge and wasn't packed with people. I never went to the Captain's Party's because a few free daiquiris wasn't worth the crowds.
