Default Splendor or Navigator

I'm leaning towards taking the Splendor this August with family. Four adults (30s) and three children (3, 5, & 8). We're leaning towards the Splendor, but wanted to get everyone's advice here. While I realize that those on this board are most likely going to endorse taking the Splendor, I want to gather the specific reasons as to why.

I am a platinum RCI cruiser, but the rates and much better on the Splendor and I'm tempted to try Carnival again. I'm also frustrated at the reports regarding RCI and the addition of various charges (e.g., room service after hours). And while I'd like to try one of RCI's larger ships, the outdoor decks and splash pool seem more appealing to our kids on the Splendor.

Thanks in advance for your advice. I've decided only to post this question here and not on the RCI board as I really want to hear what veteran Carnival cruisers have to say.

We haven't sailed on the Splendor yet but are booked for the Christmas sailing. We have however sailed on the Navigator and we love it!!! In our case though as much as we love RCI we can't justify the price difference...you can practically sail on two CCL cruises for the price of one RCI. If you have never sailed Carnival the quality is quite similar, the main difference IMHO is the ship itself, while RCI's ships are quite understated, CCL's are very over the top. Either way you'll enjoy any cruise you choose!!

Did you mean Mariner? The Mariner and Splendor do Mexican Riviera, while Navigator will be doing 7 day Mediterranean cruises in August. Assuming you meant the Mariner, I think it's 6 of one, half a dozen of another. I just did the Mariner, my first RCI cruise after 10 Carnival, and I loved the ship and the line. However, aside from the ship itself, I found the differences between Royal and Carnival to be extremely minimal. I thought Carnival's food and entertainment was slightly better, service was about equal, thought the pax were pretty much the same, etc. If the Splendor is a lot cheaper (Mariner was actually cheaper for my cruise), I'd do the Splendor and make your own judgment. I'm sure you'll have a great cruise no matter what you choose!

We live in San Diego and we are cruising next July..I had the same questions..I sailed on Carnival about 10 years ago and since I have been on RCCl and Celebrity..The reason I chose Carnival this time is the fact I have 2 six year olds and Carnivals childrens programs have rave reviews. I have spoken to several people and their kids had a fabulous time. I want my children to be well taken care of and to have fun. We did book a spa cabin because they charge on ccl for the steam room etc. 35.00 a day. My husband is returning from afgh. in June and I know this is something he will enjoy..He loves his sauna! I also checked the size of the rooms and they are a bit bigger on the spledor..take care lisa
