Default Lost luggage

After cruising last December for 8 days with no luggage (airline misplaced it and it never caught up to us)- we are set to sail again on Saturday. I am so paranoid about lost luggage again! We are flying in the day before on a non -stop flight so I am not to worried about the airlines but what if we hand it over to the porters and they misplace it! Are we allowed to carry on any size suitcase or is Carnival very restrictive about that? I would just hate to get that close and not have my luggage show up to my room! We will be traveling with eight people and just one suitcase a piece but a large one. What are everyone's thoughts?

It would seem to me that you should be more concerned with the airlines then with Carnival. If a piece of luggage is lost at the port it can be located very quickly. If you have your cabin tags on your luggage securely, I would not worry about your luggage at the port. I had to take 4 pieces with me the last time and all 3 that I checked into my room were in my cabin by 3 in the afternoon. At least your luggage at a port does not have to travel all over a tarmac and have the chance of being put on the wrong plane.

I think others will tell you the same thing, don't worry. I will tell you this though, if Carnival loses your luggage, they will not let you go a whole cruise without anything. Just make sure you have travel insurance also.

Thanks- I know I am just being overly paranoid. We do have travel insurance but if we don't get our luggage I know the gift shop is so limited in their selection. I just don't think I could do a repeat performance from the last cruise with no luggage

Try packing in just Carry ons...it can be done
if you don't bring the kitchen sink

Have insurance this time so you can spend a couple hundred a day on new clothes.

To answer the OP's question:

In many ports, guests have the option of carrying luggage on board at embarkation and off the ship at the end of the cruise as long as it does not exceed 24"w x 16"h. This is an advantage you may want to consider as it will allow for quicker easier access to your bags.

You can carry on baggage - it might give you peace of mind to pack a carry on with a couple of outfits for each traveler along with swimsuit so you'll know you have at something to wear.

I think you can carry on the lugguage as long as it fits in the xray machine. Thus it maybe similar to flying.
I would pack several suite cases and put a little of each persons clothes in each with the idea that if one got lost you would be ok.
The big risk is the airline so take carryon's on the plan with all your basics.

Default After your experience:

I would definitely pack a couple of carry-ons in addition to the checked luggage. As another poster said, pack bathing suits and a couple of outfits for each person in carry on. Also include the formal outfit and shoes. Once you get in the room, the carry on will nest into the larger suitcase for storage under the bed. Then, when you come home you can check them both or carry one home with souvenirs inside.

I ALWAYS DO THIS, and I've never had to cruise without clothes. Just like another little insurance policy.

We always make sure to have at least one change of clothes..and a couple "sets" of underwear..in our carry-on, and each of us (husband and I) have one carry-on. Generally other than that we have just one large suitcase for both of us, but if we do move to two, then we cross-pack those, too. Fortunatly we've never had luggage lost or strayed, but on our last cruise, our large suitcase "took it's sweet time" finding our cabin, so we began to worry a bit...

Just because you have a non stop flight does not guarentee anything. I had a non stop from Cle to Fll on American airlines. I went to Fll, luggage went somewhere else.

To OP, you've hit the jackpot.
Have you ever seen the movie Garp? One of Robbin Williams first movies?
Anyway, in one scene, he and his wife are househunting. They find a house they like and in the background a plane crashes into the house. He immediatly turns to the agent and says they'll take the house. His reasoning? What are the odds a plane is going to hit the house again. The house is now plane crash proof.

The same goes for your lost luggage woes. Hundreds of thousands of people travel daily with no lost luggage woes. I've been traveling for business for 20+ years and have never had lost luggage.
You experienced the big whammy of lost luggage.
Statisticly speaking, what are the chances of you ever experiencing lost luggage again.

LOL! That's exactly what I am banking on! I mean, how bad could my luck be if it happened again.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and great ideas!

We have never had a problem, but do use the luggage tags you can print from Carnivals website. Last cruise I went to check for our bags and saw three bags with tags that only had the room number on them, they were not our bags. The tags were from another ship so either the porter wrote it wrong or the people gave them the wrong info, mistakes happen.

Sorry to hear about your luggage problem....but...did you write a trip report about the "lost luggage cruise?" I'd like to know how you pulled it off. Maybe it will help me learn to pack lighter.

All luggage is xrayed (checked and carry ons) so don't worry about it fitting through the xray machines. It will.

Default Put a child in a suitcase:

Put a child in a suitcase if they loose it, it is kidnapping. Not your own child of course.
