You might add, "ignorant", also, unless someone didn't much care for their children or their safety.

Interesting. I didn't expect to get flamed for starting this thread. Personally, I would take the risk of riding without seat belts becuase that risk - even though much higher than in the US - is still relatively small. And I believe my sister would also take that risk for herself. However, she is concerned for the safety of her children. That is a risk she is choosing to avoid (or at least minimize as much as possible). I get that. I posted my question to gather information, and I received very useful information from some of you. That will help in my trip planning. The bottom line is I do not need to tell my sister that I will be enjoying my vacation without her and my nieces, because that would not be "enjoying" it for me. I wanted to attempt to work around her concerns, and we now have solutions that will work for us. So again I would like to thank those of you that provided constructive feedback. I'm sure there are other parents reading this that will be digging the seatbelts out next time they take their kids in a taxi in Mexico.

That is a big problem with CC, you get flamed for anything someone does not agree with. I am glad you posted a response because I was pretty irritated by the responses telling you to leave them on the ship and she is paranoid. As someone who grew up with a seat belt on every time I was in a car, it makes me nervous to ride in a cab without one on. I will not let it stop me, but I understand a mom wanting to have her kids in a seat belt, my mom was the same way. Ignore the ignorant comments, my mom would have been the same way. I have friends who have been in car accidents in Mexico so it is not like it never happens.

Yes, I have left the country, I am not paranoid and I do know how to have fun.

In Cabo we were in a tour in a van and it had seat belts. I would look into a van.
