All cruise ships sail full, usually. Its the lengths they have to go in DISCOUNTING THEIR CABINS to attain this, that determines the viability of a ship homeported in a certain place.

Oh good grief...sh*t happens, everywhere every day. Why should a cruise ship be any different, especially one carrying 3,000+ people?!?

We're on the Splendor December 13th; maybe I should consider rebooking to a less un-lucky date?!?

hahaha - I just found this post - I guess he is on the ship now - sitting in PV for an extra day. Maybe he should have rebooked?

Default Re: Is the Splendor cursed?

Yes, the Splendor is cursed. On our July cruise to Canada on the Splendor, the the boat jockey/driver tipped the boat to pass another and all the pools emptied, dishes fell everywhere, people were screaming, complaining and crying!

I also did this cruise twice on the ELATION many years ago. Cabo then was such a junkie short stop, I didn't even bother getting off the ship.

Since then, the malecon has been completely redone and really invites visitors. Great food, cheap beer prices, super reasonable pricing on shirts, etc. and usually a longer stay.

I'm not positive, but I think Carnival wanted to build a pier in Cabo a few years ago, but the locals decided against it, so its still a tender port.

Wonder what can happen next week to beat this one. Does anyone know if the captain that had the heart attack went home as planned and if he is okay?

Actually it wasn't the idea of not wanting a pier at all. It was how it was to be paid for. Typical carnival..they wanted the local gov't to shoulder most of the burden..and the risk.

Sorry- bumping into another cruise ship and smashing into the dock are not the same thing.

From your perspective perhaps...for me this suggests there is a huge issue within carnival with all these incidents that needs to be addressed. Until then I would think twice..

I work for Carnival in Long Beach and YES our ships (Splendor and Paradise) are almost always at cabin capacity. Rare when there is more then 1-2 cabins open and those are from same day cancellations.

That's called smart business. "You want us to come, you have to make it worth our while." As a stockholder, I applaud that logic.

On the face of it it would seem like good business. What Mr. Arison wants is a cheaply built facility with the best resources and contribute next to nothing for it. So that means local govt's pay dirt wages and the cheapest materials that can pass muster. It's a recipe for a tragedy...and CCL contributes to it.
